In the latest in a series of developments regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s gifts probe, Israeli police took testimony from American millionaire Spencer Partrich on Thursday regarding gifts and favors he reportedly gave Netanyahu, Haaretz reported.
Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, are currently embroiled in controversy over accusations the two had for several years received gifts of luxurious cigars and champagne worth tens of thousands of shekels annually from billionaire business mogul Arnon Milchan and other wealthy benefactors, in a case dubbed by police as "Case 1,000."
According to a report by Haaretz in January, in most cases the gifts were not given spontaneously, but were requested by the Netanyahus themselves using the code name "pinks" to indicate a requested purchase of pink champagne and "leaves" to signal the expensive cigars.
Partrich reportedly purchased a half-interest in the home of Netanyahu’s late parents in Jerusalem for 4.2 million shekels ($1.15 million), making Partrich a partner in the property of the Prime Minister. Partrich, who owns several real-estate companies, is known as a close friend of the Netanyahu’s and an adamant supporter of Israel. Partrich resides in Detroit and contributed to the presidential campaign of Republican Candidate Marco Rubio.
