The unemployment rate may in double digits and foreclosures may be on the rise, but over at JPMorgan Chase life is good.
To hear Jamie Dimon, chairman and chief executive of JPMorgan Chase, tell it, his bank could have done better last year, and he remains cautious about the coming year. And that after JPMorgan finished off 2009 with $11.7 billion in profits.
After borrowing $25 billion from the federal government in October 2008 to avoid fiscal calamity, the… Continue

The handwringing about the would-be Christmas Day airplane bomber and the politicians' tiresome declarations that it will never happen again miss the point: As long as the U.S. government pursues its imperial program of invasion, regime change, occupation, and sponsorship of corrupt governments in the Muslim world, Americans will be targets for avengers. This does not excuse the killing of innocents -- it merely points out an inevitable chain of events.
Americans like lists. Most often, we get "Top Ten" lists, but this book is a top dozen list, a list of the most damaging Supreme Court decisions during and since the New Deal era. The authors, two lawyers with strong libertarian philosophies, set out to show which decisions have had the most detrimental impact by expanding the realm of government coercion and depriving people of their liberty. This, they correctly observe, is a target-rich environment. The Supreme Court has been blundering… Continue

The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission (CADC) published a list of what it views as the 10 worst “anti-Christian acts” of 2009, including the murder of a pro-life protester, expansion of federal hate-crimes laws, and controversial presidential appointments.
The list, culled from a poll taken by subscribers to the CADC’s Web site and listeners on its radio programs,… Continue
Pushing the idea of censorship as the right thing to do because China says so.
China told companies to back state control of the Internet on Thursday, showing no sign of giving ground on censorship after U.S. Internet giant Google threatened to quit the country. Minister of the State Council Information Office, Wang Chen, said that online pornography, fraud and "rumours" were a menace. He said Internet media must help "guide public…Continue
So the Government, as the Daily Mail has revealed, is trying to get rid of £1billion-worth of unwanted swine flu vaccine - because the deadly epidemic they were promising us all last year never materialised.
Several things are shocking about this revelation, not least the charge by the Council of Europe's head of health that major drug companies might have leaned on the World Health Organisation (WHO) to stoke up last year's scare by warning that swine flu could be a worldwide… Continue
If you've ever attended a freedom rally, a conference call, received an email, visited a website or even spoke openly against government abuse you may be affected!
The Supreme Court has a case that MUST BE HEARD and they are deciding on Thursday if it is important enough to hear. YOUR VOICE MATTERS NOW!
:: ACTION: 3 DAY PHONE MOB ::
We must light up the swithcboard and jam the phones of the Supreme Court so they know this case is MUST BE HEARD.
Police officers were once seen as reassuring figures, like the fatherly Dixon of Dock Green.
Now it seems they are more likely to have a quite different effect - so much so that officers have been told not to talk about crime in case they frighten the public.
Home Office officials say discussing crime rates may make it less likely that the public will think officers are doing a good job. And that will make it harder for forces to hit the Government's target for increasing… Continue

Bankruptcy filings increased by a third, job market improvements only amount to less of a slowdown, industries coping with economic downturn, Fed still being deceptive, new unemployment filings also up, xmas presents from Geithner for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
The number of Americans filing for personal bankruptcy rose by nearly a third in 2009, a surge largely driven by foreclosures and job losses.
And more people are filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which liquidates… Continue
Trying to solve a debt crisis by taking on huge amounts of new debt at the same time that you gut your capability to pay any of your debts, is not only irrational, but bug-eyed crazy.
It is often striking to watch, during the holiday season, the way in which crises seem to fade into the background, only to emerge with new fury after the… Continue

Even as calls for nullification of proposed federal health care mandates have intensified on the state level, an almost hysterical effort has arisen to discredit such measures, and paint them as part of an obsolete theory with no bearing on modern politics.
Regardless of its logical descent from our most basic founding principle, that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed,… Continue
On-the-ground reports show growth in polar bear numbers across much of Canada's Nunavut territory.
Polar bears, the lumbering carnivores of the arctic, continue to be the poster bear – er, child – for global warmers everywhere who are convinced the baby seal munchers are being driven to extinction by man’s irresponsible release of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Next to whales, the cuddly fur balls enjoy a special place on the “Animals to Love” list.… Continue
No one has been less forgiving than Glenn Beck when it comes to Democrats with tax problems. Not just the well-known ones like Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner but also less serious ones such as Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, whose husband only recently paid off $6,400 in tax liens on his auto repair business, and Nancy Killefer, who withdrew her nomination to be White House chief performance officer, citing a $946.69 tax lien on her Washington home.

If voters in the US or the UK had been given a vote on whether their governments should inject trillions of dollars into their banks (in the form of loans, guarantees and investments), it is pretty likely that those referenda would have been lost.
Most opinion polls indicated that citizens were furious with their banks - and were not persuaded that letting them fail would wreak the kind of economic havoc that would impoverish all of us.
