The ministry also said a patient infected with the MERS virus had died, the 16th fatality in an outbreak that began in May.

I have to admit, I’ve always been a sucker for yard sales and garage (or garbage depending on your attitude) sales. I know, it’s tempting to think: “Why should I want to buy any of that stuff, if they don’t even want it?” Well, as the cliche goes; one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and you can find some really useful survival items at yard sales, as well as older items that you just can’t find anymore, or aren’t made as sturdy as they used to back in the day.…

Japan has found a willing bedboy in the international community to provide it with whale-meat. The name of this country is Iceland, which has announced that instead of killing fewer whales, it actually intends to slaughter more in 2014. How Iceland is a member of the International Whaling Commission, which has banned commercial whaling, defies logic.
Iceland's recent record, for a country in the International Whaling…

ContinueThe Internal Revenue Service isn't the only federal bureaucracy to be recently taken to task by its Office of the Inspector General. Amid considerably less fanfare in early May, the US Department of Agriculture's OIG issued a report damning the department's oversight of pork slaughterhouses and trashing a USDA pilot program…

Some experts predict there will be no more helium left for the party industry in less than a decade.
"It is serious. It is not something that is going to rectify itself within a short space of time. People have predicted that by 2020 there will be no more helium left for the party industry," John Lee, chairman of the balloon industry body NABAS, told the Independent.
There are extraction plants in Canada, Russia and Poland, with America producing about 75 percent of…

With seemingly no concern whatsoever for the sensibilities of some Americans regarding their moral or religious beliefs, a noted pediatrics organization is recommending that all pediatricians actively counsel teens about "emergency contraception," even going so far as to recommend that they be provided with prescriptions and products in advance, to ensure they have the pills if or when they need them.
According to…

The statists have now set their sights on our children, as efforts to train them at a younger age to be compliant without question has now spread to the public school system.
As we've reported, Texas high school student Andrea Hernandez, an exceptional student who was enrolled in advanced coursework, has been targeted for expulsion by authoritarian school officials at John Jay High School in San Antonio for her refusal to wear a Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) tracker…

State budget deficits are self-inflicted delusions. Any state in the USA could almost instantly eliminate all budget deficits and start rolling in billions of dollars in state revenues by embracing freedom for farmers, holistic health practitioners and other groups (see below).
All that's needed to unleash this economic Golden Age is for a state to be willing to nullify outmoded, ridiculous federal restrictions on things like growing industrial hemp. The federal government…

Though there are still quite a few absentee, mail-in and provisional ballots left to be counted, it appears as though California's Proposition 37, the genetically-engineered (GE) foods labeling initiative, has indeed failed to pass by a very narrow margin. But that does not mean the labeling fight is over, nor does it mean proponents of honesty in food labeling cannot get even with the opposition by actively boycotting the corporations responsible for helping kill the initiative.

Most parents have deficiencies, but let's face it, some parents don't have many redeeming qualities.
Worse, when adult children approach their parents to ask what happened, they are often met with nothing but blame and excuses. The mind-blower is that most adult children with the consciousness to reconcile only want an apology so they can move on.
The difficult truth is that many people need to learn to accept and let go of the past in spite of the ongoing poor relationship…

A cohort of law enforcement officials and long-time law enforcement veterans has had enough of the federal government's continued prohibition of marijuana, and is demanding that the rogue entity back off and respect the people's sovereign right to grow and use the natural plant as they see fit, particularly in the states of Colorado and Washington where oppressive prohibition laws were recently lifted through voter initiatives.
The group Law Enforcement Against Prohibition…

Although the mainstream media didn’t recognize the crimes committed by Jimmy Savile until after his death, there were many instances throughout his career where he was accused or implicated in child abuse cases.
In most cases he was able to avoid a whole lot of legal trouble and public scrutiny due to his media celebrity and his close ties to the power of the royal family.
The fallout from the Jimmy Savile case has probably just begun, but the backlash has already been…

When I was 16 my “foster” parents through me out on the streets in the middle of the Blizzard of ’96 and I spent the next 8 years battling homelessness. I worked so hard to never have to face that threat again. Sandy just destroyed my house and we don’t have flood insurance. The Ex will be in court first thing filing to get custody back of our son. My wife doesn’t want to have to deal with that as we struggle to rebuild everything. Dark days lie ahead and there is just no simple solution as…
ContinueThe Department of Energy is now backing a new $452 million plan to start installing smaller modular nuclear reactors throughout the US as a safer alternative to massive nuclear plants.
According to a report, Paul Genoa of the Senior Director of the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) stated, ”You don’t have to build a 1,000- or 1,500-megawatt power plant and hope that demand catches up,” …. “You can build chunks of power to more closely meet your demand curve.”
