The Reality Of Life In Afghanistan

I can't begin to explain the sorrow and the complete embarrassment I feel as an American. I am, very certainly ashamed to be an American. Ashamed of my country, ashamed of my military, ashamed of the people I share this land with and ashamed of the world I share life with.

It helps me make decisions based on mainstream perceptions regarding what direction various political agendas might actually take using public opinion as a guide, not that public opinion is all encompassing, just that it's one of the components.

Things like the results of pandemic legislation as it pertains to people actually getting vaccinated, public perception regarding an attack on Iran, etc.

I've been spending a great deal of time on Facebook. There's a rapidly growing group of people intent that 9/11 was committed by Mossad and that the Neo-Cons knowingly helped. This is a strong movement.

There is also an even larger group that believe these wars are necessary to eliminate evil and their beliefs are based on their religious convictions. There's no argument that can be made to alter their view, no evidence that can be presented to offer a contrary position.

Then, I also comment at the Washington Times on the OpEd Pages regularly. There is an even larger group there that are gung ho militarists whose beliefs make me ashamed.

I also comment on Gather, a mainstream web site that I visit specifically to get a feel for the mainstream position on various subject we discuss here, from the flu, to food additives to war and politics. Gather has a million mainstream members. Mr. And Mrs. Americas from every state and these people are very active there, every day and all day and the posts are plentiful. Commentary is real time.

This makes me even more ashamed to be an American.

Tara, the lack of understanding, the uninformed leading the ill-informed is staggering to anyone with even just a few brain cells. I'm embarrassed, stupefied, mortified and ashamed to be an American. Except when I come here of course, but we are very, very few.

Yeah Jeff, I hear ya..... out of sight, out of mind for most Americans so they can move along with their life as if nothing bad has happened and no evils have been perpetrated by the hands of their own government. It's much easier to live in a delusional, fantasy world rather than be discomforted with the truth.

Of course you're right Tara but even Americans with computers won't typically access these web sites and there are many more.

How can Americans not feel shame for the devastation and horrific nature of war when it comes to Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, ect.? That is the question. If you don't feel some level of shame then how can you possibly call yourself a human?

Unfortunately, most Americans have only gotten the sanitized version of the war or moreover, the glamorized version either through the MSM's or Hollywood's propaganda arms.

I do believe that if Americans were granted the opportunity to see what war really looks like, the unsanitized unedited version, these wars probably would be put to a grinding halt sooner than later just as it was with Vietnam. At least that is my belief.

I feel the same shame and have the same wish, to live in a free country. My country is actively involved in Afghanistan, both in actual troops deployed and in lucrative business deals (the benefits of war). I've been ridiculed and abused for suggesting that due to his policies, the Prime Minister of my country is a war criminal. People here are not so much stupid, but denial works for them, particularly when a policy sustains much employment and enterprise such as this one.

I'm with you on all counts

I wish I lived in a free country...

I wish the gullible people of this country were not completely brainwashed and insane...

I wish there was somewhere sane to call home, somewhere in which people do a minimal amount of research and don't ridicule as a standard operating procedure of shear ignorance...

I hope I get a second life in a reality where true freedom and sanity are king and those who are the polar opposite are cast out not praised or worshiped.
