Playing Hendrix better than Hendrix?
Better at Being Hendrix then Jimi Hendrix?
George Harrison did a Hendrix lick as an intro to the Song “Don’t Let me Down” as the Beatles played from a rooftop live. It sounded pretty good but it was just one lick. Stevie Ray Vaughn did a great job of replicating Jimi Hendrix playing a couple of his own tunes very well but in Stevie’s own style. Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple tried his hand at the wah wah peddle, but he was better off sticking to his own style. Yet, who do we have but Randy California maybe sounding better than Hendrix doing the song “Hey Joe” with Step Dad Ed Cassidy on drums as he had been for Spirit. Oldest musician of the band, Cassidy had been a jazz drummer of the 40’s and fifties and was step Dad to Randy California. This man was the calming and collective influence in the band, well respected, settled squabbles between members, and helped gel the personalities together. Ed known for his bald head was a very competent drummer! His jazz influence can be heard in many of their songs. Enjoy!

cheeki kea You're from New Zealand right? Always nice to get your input. All I can say about Randy California is that he was no hack, a solid guitar legend, he did play with Hendrix too, but yeah I know all about imports and black market recordings. I got a copy od Let it Be by the Beatles that was black market rleased months before the actual authentic version and it turned out to be really raw early studio versions not yet refined and thw recording was n't so good either. The songs in some cases were recorded in a different time so that they did not even resemble very well the final version. I think if anything it showed just how hard the Beatles worked in the recoding studio to polishe up their sound, harmonies, and sound effects. There used to be a lot of underground stations south of the border in Mexico that would play music that the radio stations in the states wouldn't play too. Sp I know what you're talking about.

I'm old enough to remember back in the day when music from America was so expensive and hard to get that records had to be purchased from smugglers and could only be played on pirate radio station boats anchored out in the distant harbour. Most 'American' music on local stations at the time were all covers that over the years become so familiar in sound that when the Real artist turned up on the airways later on no body liked them as much with some folk truely believing They were covers so the songs themselves!
