J.C. Penney's To Become First Major Retailer To Adopt Cashless Biometric Payment Systems In All Stores - To Ditch Registers / Cashiers (Only Couple Years Remaining Before Full Spectrum 666?)

Posted 10:46AM 07/23/12

Cash registers could join the ranks of pay phones and typewriters sooner than you think.

J.C. Penney (JCP) will say farewell to cash registers, checkout counters and cashiers by 2014, said Ron Johnson, the chain's CEO, during the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference, reports Time.

Penney's plan evokes Apple's (AAPL) mostly cash-register free stores -- and that comes as little surprise: Johnson was the head of Apple Retail and is considered the mastermind behind its success. He left Apple in November to take the top spot at J.C. Penney.

Johnson, who has been in the headlines lately for Penney's radical, controversial -- and so far, unsuccessful -- strategy to eliminate most of its sales and coupons, is now looking to shake up the checkout experience in the chain's stores.

His plan is to eliminate cashiers, cash registers and checkout counters, replacing them with a patchwork of technology solutions, such as WiFi networks, mobile checkout, RFID (radio frequency identification) technology tracking systems for merchandise, as well as self-checkout options.

I agree MAC, they are cutting their own throats by doing this. And by the looks of it, JC Penney hasn't been doing so good with the elimination of sales and coupons. How ironic... JC Penny's will not be saving you pennies by shopping there anymore. They're not living up to the name, are they? ;)

They must be close to bust and think by eliminating casiers they'll be saving sooo much money. What a joke! You eliminate more jobs you have less people to shop in your stores. How can we as consumers consume when there are no more slave labor jobs to keep us consuming. That's a whole lot of consumption being stripped away, little by little. We are the worker bees. Without us the machines won't work... hey maybe we should quit feeding them anyways, ya think ;)

The scary part of it is I'm seeing more and more of these self-checkouts popping up, especially in the grocery stores. And of course Wally World is equipped with them, go figure.

It is strange days indeed. I still can't believe that I'm not curled up in a ball somewhere, eating crayons already. This is all just nuts!!!

I was in Penny's a few months ago and noticed way too much empty floor space. Not a good sign for any retailer unless it's just before inventory. And what stock that was there seemed "cheap" as well as inexpensive.

Penny's seems to be going after the "connected" generation. Do these people even shop at Penny's? My first concern is older seniors. Do they really see people in their 70's and 80's endorsing these changes? I don't think so. They will all just go someplace else.

As for me? I buy most of my clothes from an online retailer. I don't even have to leave the house.

the days of the physical store is almost over anyway, Henry Ford knew people need jobs to buy your product, cut them out and your cutting your own throat, there motivated by greed, the cost of employees is all factored into the cost of your sails, just think if all the stores do this who will have the money to buy, the stores will shut down and the people will have to move into banker owned prison city's, how will they pay the rent, well they will have to work at the banker owned labor camps, this will never fly, big fail.
