Senator Harkin:
On Christmas Eve, your vote in favor of the Senate’s health care bill was most certainly NOT a present, but rather a big lump of coal. I demand an explanation on how 60% of senators could vote in favor of this bill but only 40% of Americans (according to a December 27, 2009 poll) support it. I demand an explanation as to why Senator Grassley would vote against this bill, yet you would vote for it. Do you not BOTH represent the state of Iowa? If the majority of Iowans were opposed to this bill, it is criminal that you would vote against the wishes of your constituents.
I also demand clarification on what this statement, made by you, means:
“We take that step from healthcare as a privilege to healthcare as an inalienable right of every single American citizen. And as I said before, this bill is not complete. I've used the analogy of a starter home in which we can add additions and enhancements as we go into the future but like every right that we've ever passed the American people, we revisit it later to enhance and build on those rights, and we will do that here surely.”
First, it appears that you are unfamiliar with the Declaration of Independence. The self-evident truth is that our basic rights as humans are granted by our Creator, and not by some corrupt bureaucrat in Washington. Rights granted by God cannot be taken away, unless, Mr. Harkin, you agree with the writings of the early Progressive Frank Goodnow when he wrote that,
“The rights which men have been recognized as possessing [as spelled out in the Declaration of Independence] have not been considered to be inherent rights, attaching to man at the time of his birth, so much as rights which find their origin in the law as adopted by that origin of government regarded as representative of the society of which the individual man is a member.”
It is quite apparent that you have long forgotten what it is like to be a citizen in this country. Washington politics have gotten the better of you. Our Founding Fathers would be ashamed for the disrespect you have shown for their sacrifices. I am counting down the days until the next election when I can vote you and your progressive cronies out of office for your failures.
