That's the history of aspartame, in the link above. Yea, get off the cola man. I know it's addictive, I was hooked as a kid. Couldn't get enough of the stuff.

@honey, really? Monsanto owns coca cola? Coca Cola, at least the people that own Coca Cola, also own Taco Bell, Sprite, McDonalds, and entire string of related franchises. Have any articles about Monsanto buying out Coca Cola?

I always considered this, they use to put cocaine in it. No big surprise they would put a lethal poison in it too.

BTW, aspartame is only in diet drinks as a flavor enhancer. In regular Cola HFCS is really what you have to worry about.

Comment by Central Scrutinizer on March 6, 2012 at 2:25pm: ol rummy tried to get this poison passed in the 70's and the then, "Not-yet-super corrupt" FDA said "forget about it, this stuff is poison". Now look @ the FDA and Monsanto all being buddy's dealing the slow death.

I have a 2-liter a day habit myself, no health probs but looking to switch to unsweet iced tea. I bought a surplus of Coca-cola, 2 liter bottles, bout a year ago, down to the last pallet or 2.

The major soft drink bottlers like Coca Cola and gatorade and others are banding together to help us . Some thing is up I can feel it. This should looked in to !

I heard that they can put Aspartame in food and not have to list it . Coca Cola used to have more calories in it, now it is has considerably less . I have very senstive taste buds and I can now tell that it has a nasty industrial flavor that reminds me of diet coke.

I used to have a Coca Cola once in a while as treat and as one of my few vices , maybe add some rum ya know . Now I have a good reason to neverever touch the stuff . I would call the 1800 # to ask but I only have a cell phone so its hard to record phone calls . Also recently I had a can of Coca Cola to see what would happen . My joints began to ache more than they usally do and my hands real got swollen and I felt sick afterward . Someone investigate this ! In Mexico they use real cane sugar like the old days it tastes completly different.
