Breaking: Alert at PPL Nuclear Plant --19 municipalities involved in Level 2 alert 10 Aug 2010 (PA) An alert has been issued at PPL's Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant near Berwick after a leak inside one of the buildings. PPL officials said no radiation was involved. PPL officials said Freon is leaking from a cooling system inside the Unit 1 reactor building. PPL said the Freon is still leaking and crews are trying to determine if it is safe for workers to stop the leak or if special teams using oxygen suits will be needed to stop the flow of Freon. The Freon supplies a cooling system in Unit 1. The alert system has four stages; four being the highest alert.
ok, i see alot has been said here. so if someone said it already, never mind. just use special teams using oxygen suits to stop the flow. why waste time trying to determine if they need to take that step?

All Nuclear Reactors have to be closed down, with these mental bastards (Lowlite) running things! It is too unsafe! The Chernobyl disaster was no accident! Outside influences from the USA, Britain and Israel made sure that all (I think 12) safety over-ride features were switched off so as to allow the the meltdown that resulted in that explosion!
Israeli Zionists are the main players behind every event like this, Zionism is your enemy! Your typical true orthadox Jew has nothing to do with this evil!! Zionism came from the minds of Satanists!

Thank you Jen.
You make a very good investigative reporter and the info you brought forth on "The Tragedy" at Chernobyl is outstanding. I as an ex-heavy crane rigger/ironworker have been involved in many plant shut-down operations over a period of 12yrs. with a few in radioactive vessels where the levels of safety involved was the highest I ever witnessed. Containing the inherent "chain reaction" of possible events that can happen in most adverse radioactive scenerios always has un-charted consequences that always includes "projected" loss of life involved. All it takes is one dropped hammer, a bad shut off valve, blown pipe/gasket, etc. . It doesn't take much to have a catastrophic event during such operations and they're going on all the time here stateside. Nuclear may be efficient as far as an energy resource but at what cost? It baffles all sense of reason to me. Alternate energies are a must for many reasons. Thank you again for your input Jen and have a good one where you are.
Freon gas is not very hazardous in fact its what's in most fridges and air con systems. I have recycled a good few fridge freezers in my time, and when you burst the pipes it comes spraying out as a clear freezing liquid and evaporates in seconds without any smell or residue!

Lame press release but expected. Level 2 is an "emergency response" warning that could have dire consequences if the cooling unit is part of the actual reactor cooling system. The press release doesn't specify that only to say ""a cooling system inside the building" of which there are more than one doing different tasks. I have to believe there is some sugar coating in the release due the caution being taken deciding the level of response safety needed. If it was something "simple" with an in house maint. quick fix, we would have never had the opportunity to discuss the matter. Just like there is no good level of cancer in a body, an overheated reactor, no matter the temperature, is not a good thing with a radiation leak being much worse. Govt./Corporate press release? Expect a lie, cover up, deceit, and the worst case scenerio. That my opinion.
