Broken Valentines
The dew that was on the lawn turned to frost
Considering my position I felt lost
Kind of like being double crossed
As though some kind of evil coin had been tossed,
The waves of life crashing on the rocks
The hearts of unfaithful lovers like rusted locks
Unable to open up to the one they love
Getting rid of all those close with a push and a shove,
You came to me out of an unexpected mist
Never could I have anticipated we would kiss
Somehow though there was beauty missed
Like the serpent in the garden coiled as it hissed,
You brought me down from my high flying formation
Was it for lack of love or lack of sensation?
It was simply too late to show up for creation
The plight of our faltering young nation,
Just as a coward dies a thousand times
Tears roll down with familiar rhymes
The martyrs sacrifice while evil shines
Those bruised and heart broken Valentines,
The King thought he owned his feudal land
Until his queen refused to honor his loving hand
Reminded by her wrath that he was a mortal man
Devastated he had fallen into an unholy Klan,
The shimmering dew glittering on the lawn
Was I in control of my destiny or only a pawn?
Is it true the monotony of betrayal lives on and on?
Catch me before I cross that threshold at dawn.
