Canadian Town Set To Force Gas Stations To Shame Motorists

As climate change takes centre stage in news coverage, there's fortune in the timing of the latest ordinance by North Vancouver, one of a dozen municipalities which make up Metro Vancouver. Beginning in the new year, gas stations in the town will required to affix prominently, labels advising and reminding motorists that the products they use to fuel up contributes to climate change that puts species at risk.
The resolution passed last month by council, appears to be the first of its kind among municipal jurisdictions and is inspired by Our Horizon, a non profit lobby group based in Toronto which is spearheading the campaign to have more municipalities sign on. The warning label, to be placed somewhere on either the dispenser or nozzle itself was designed with a view to providing a simple and more positive message linking the use of fossil fuels with global warming, rather than graphics suggested by Our Horizons equating petroleum use with damage to the environment and public health.

Maybe we could encourage the Toronto socialists to head out to BC with the following action plan:
Stand in the gas stations with a Our Horizons collection jar and demand a toonie from each driver filling up, reminding them to 'check their driving privilege'.
...then sit back and watch the fun
