Approximately 500 protesters, majority Latino, were showered in police beanbags, rubber bullets and pepper balls last night outside Anaheim City Hall as they rioted over two recent officer-involved shootings in the Or.... (And the fight wasn't one-sided: Protesters reportedly hurtled bottles, rocks and traffic cones right back in the face of riot police.)
But you know the police response has waxed indiscriminate when two journalists walking along the sidewalk, just doing their job, come under fire:
Amber Lyon, a former CNN correspondent who was reporting for L.A. radio station KPFK last night, and Tim Pool, another L.A.-based freelancer best known for his extensive coverage of the Occupy Wall Street protests, can be seen fleeing from a round of non-lethal bullets in a video that Pool posted to YouTube this morning.
Pool writes beneath the video that "Neither Tim nor Amber were hurt. Amber was pinned between two trucks and Tim was fired at multiple times after this video but is unscathed."

Another L.A. reporter who says he narrowly avoided a big red pepper-ball bruise?
KFI radio's own Steven Gregory. He Tweeted the photo to the left at around 9:30 p.m., writing: "Pepper spray ball shot at me and 2 KFI staffers".
Police tried to turn the story around in a Los Angeles Times blog post this morning, informing the paper that a rock thrown by protesters had struck a reporter from the Orange County Register.
Guess that's what a journalist gets for entering the war zone that is Anaheim right now.
There has been violence on both sides, but we will say this: The police protests began very peacefully over the weekend. It was only once Anaheim cops (and other cops called in from surrounding cities) starting blasting groups of women and children with rubber bullets and sicki... that all bets were called off.

Good post... I hate sharing that video with them shooting into the families but is great that people are standing up for what is right and the law after all!

I have a question. Is there anyone else that is having trouble watching videos on here? I cant seem to get any of them to play. Has been that way for three days now. Strange thing to me is if I want to play games it works just fine.

Ah,nothing to worry about. The cop's were just target practicing. They needed something to get used to using bigger firepower on citizens. When you get hit by M-15/16 with a hollow point bullitt and your arm falls off,then you know it is for real.

Watching this reminds me of the Battle of Seattle in '99. I went to Seattle to visit a friend in Everett just north of there, and missed the last bus back from Seattle just before the anti WTO protest. There were no motels because all were booked up by protestors. Had a choice of sleeping on the floor of an all night laundromat or finding someplace else. Saw on front page of newspaper that group of demonstrators had comandeered an abandoned house to use as crash pad during the protest. Went there and saw cops staking it out. Talked to people on second floor, told them needed to crash.
They had stairs boarded up, made me crawl halfway thru where they interrogated me to make sure I wasnt an undercover cop, or as they called it "a donut eater". Convinced them was ok, they let me into firetrap of a building where they had plastic buckets with toilet seats, buckets had lime for sanitation. They had candles everywhere, no electricity. People crashed in sleeping bags, playing guitars, smoking weed. Some were mooning the cops and razzing them, others were afraid might be raided again by cops. Sentry on roof to monitor cops. Door barricaded against cop entry. At sunrise we were let out in small groups to keep cops from raiding again.
In streets we locked arms to keep WTO delegates from being able to get to their meetings, we really disrupted the meeting, had delegates attempt to barge past but we wouldn't let them, told them to go back to airport and fly home, no one ever elected them. Was fun! WTO= SCAM!
When martial law was declared I had motorcycle helmet, welders smock, gloves. Was shot at with many teargas cannisters and pepperballs. Beaned cop in head with teargas cannister threw back at him. Direct hit! Lights out! Was swarmed, arrested, put on bus with other prisoners of war.
Was interrogated in decommissioned Navy brig. Deliberately had no ID on me. Gave no info. Told cops to fuck off. Told was Canadian. Demanded release. Declared they in violation of Geneva Convention. After a week in jail was released....
Before arrest I tackled a guy who I saw break a starbucks window. Cops saw the whole thing. Had guy in full nelson, demanded cops come arrest the guy. Cops did nothing! I suspect guy I tackled was probably a cop, an agent provacateur, thats why cops did nothing! Damn near broke that bastards neck. Dislocated his shoulder and punched him in face hard. Broke his nose.
