Former UN Adviser Defends Female Genital Mutilation as ‘Gender-Egalitarian Surgery’

Fuambai Ahmadu

  1. Fuambai Sia Ahmadu

Fuambai Sia Ahmadu (born c. 1969[1]) is a Sierra Leonean-American anthropologist.[2] She has worked for UNICEF and the British Medical Research Council in the Gambia.[3]

Ahmadu obtained her PhD in social anthropology from the London School of Economics and undertook post-doctoral work at the Department of Comparative Human Development, University of Chicago.[3]

Ahmadu is known for her work on female genital mutilation (FGM) and, in particular, for her decision as an adult and member of the Kono ethnic group to undergo clitoridectomy in Sierra Leone as part of an initiation into the Bundu secret society.[4] Contrary to the official position of the World Health Organization, she has argued that the health risks of FGM are exaggerated, its effect on women's sexuality misunderstood, and that critics are wrong to see it as an oppressive practice.[5] In 2009, Ahmadu received support from one other anthropologist who decried how the anti-FGM movement has worked to marginalize and discredit the voices of dissenting African women.[6]

@LP - I've said exactly the same thing for many years...

Surprisingly the omnipotent all-knowing God had a flaw in the human design and left the foreskin a bit too long.  It is also believed that same happened for females in some backward cultures thus resulting in the need for FGM. This all is batshit crazy.

@AE - I would take a guess -  primarily as 'blood sacrifice'   whether the subjects is aware of this or not - in addition the fear / pain generated through this barbaric action.

The are also unified in their collective mutilation - through their twisted ideology it becomes a mark of solidarity among them.

Well, this is a big surprise as the UN has Saudi Arabia in charge of 'womens rights'. By the way, I am NOT HAPPY my parents 'decided' to cut my foreskin off based on some stupid jew law and their own ignorance. What is it about cutting off part of a being's body so they can 'fit in' to some religion?

"It is absolutely impossible to remove woman's clitoris without KILLING her" ??? Fuambai Sia Ahmadu. Wow, that woman? is full of crap.

FGM is FGM, whether it's big or small. Just why is she advocating a completely useless and damaging operation?

Comment by DTOM on May 11, 2017 at 5:54am

It's bad enough that this mentally retarded woman is advocating clitoridectomy mutilation- but that Tucker Carlson advocates the mutilation that is male circumcision, says it all.

Neither have any place in Western society.

Oh and Fuambai Ahmadu, you cretinous bitch, you are advocating for the removal of the exposed clitoris, a organ whose primary function is for female sexual pleasure - give me ONE good reason for why this takes place.

...and that's it is part of your primitive culture, just won't do.
