Kashi Cereal Stirs Anger - Exposed by Small Rhode Island Grocer
By Dr. Mercola
A simple sign on a grocery store shelf has gone viral, causing a storm of outrage among consumers who feel they've been misled by cereal maker Kellogg's claims about its Kashi cereals. A Rhode Island grocer posted a note on the shelf where Kashi was supposed to be, saying he'd learned it wasn't 100 percent natural after all, and therefore wasn't carrying it anymore.
It turns out the soy in Kashi cereals comes from genetically modified Roundup-ready soybeans, which have a gene inserted in them that allows the crop to withstand otherwise lethal doses of the weed killer.
USA Today reported that consumers felt duped into believing that Kashi was all-natural when it's noti. Their complaints were initially brushed off by Kashi general Manager David DeSouza, who told USA Today that since the FDA doesn't regulate the term "natural," the cereal maker has done nothing wrong by defining "natural" as minimally-processed with no artificial flavors, colors, preservatives or sweeteners.

You're welcome on the follow ups.
I did some research into organic farming versus "BIG AGRI", and the end results were in favour of organic farming - albeit by a narrow margin - but it was many years ago.
One huge advantage, which most farmers seem to often overlook, is the personal health risks involved - being the one, or one of the ones, who has to mix and apply those toxic chemicals - let alone the cost of the chemicals...pushed for the sole gain of pure monetary profits, by the petrochemical corporations.
I appreciate you following up on my comments Christopher :)
Good info brother. I know organic is not always what it's cracked up to be. I did some research a few years ago liken to your findings. For instance, the food is only as good as the soil it's grown in. Testing organic and non-organic foods showed that neither really had the edge in that way. Sometimes organics had less nutritional value than the alternative.
As far as the chemicals you have to research the food you buy. Just because it says organic doesn't mean it's healthy. That's why I buy local, so I can track down the farm the product came from. I find that small, whole food stores are good at providing good information on the products they carry.
I Just recalled watching a documentary, a couple or three months ago - it was on organic farming in the State of California - and it showed quite clearly, the ridiculous levels of deceit and corruption, that is actually in place, and, allowed to take place - it is what stifles the growth (no pun intended) of organic foods.
It was mentioned in the documentary, that organic farmers have to pay fees to the state, whereas conventional farmers do not have to - conventional farmers (pesticides, fungicides and petroleum based fertilizers) are actually subsidized by the State - The fees for the organic farmers include; memberships to organic associations (organic seal) and licenses, etc, etc.
Clearly just a bunch of hoops to jump through, and as you exit one hoop; you end up being caught up in 'their' web of red tape - this obviously results in frustration beyond capacity - and giving up the battle.

Gluten in Potato Chips?
Thanks for the link to this article Maria.
I always make it a point to read labels, and now i am going to make it a point to visit the chips section in the supermarket, just to see which ones are containing wheat.
I do not usually eat chips, unless I'm at a party and having some (undisclosed quantities) beer - you know - just out for a night of personal abuse - but seriously - who would have even considered that there would be wheat added to the chips to enhance flavor?
Its really a sad situation that we are facing - the war will never be over, that's for sure.
KRYPKE - I commend your decisions, and motivation, to make as much of your diet organic - but I have to be the bearer of some bad news - this just out:
Discover What They're Hiding in Your Organic Food
By Dr. Mercola
Mark Kastel, the co-director and Senior Farm Policy Analyst at the Cornucopia Institute, says:
"It seems evident that the people doing the supposedly careful scientific reviews and approving these chemicals have mostly been affiliated with the same corporate agribusinesses and the same food producers that are lobbying for their use - We thought organics would be different from the rest of the money-dominated corruption in Washington... But the corporations that have gobbled up most of the pioneering organic businesses are relentless in their short-sighted pursuit of profit."
The Organic Watergate
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is charged with enforcing the laws regulating organic foods, so how are improprieties occurring? According to Mark, what we have here is nothing short of an Organic Watergate. He explains:
"An incident last fall caused Cornucopia staff to do a cursory review of many non-organic and synthetic ingredients that have been approved for use in organics since the USDA took over regulation in 2002. And what do we find? A corporate and governmental conspiracy to allow almost any chemical petitioned by agribusinesses in organic food, regardless of the fact that Congress mandated review of all such substitutes to make sure that they will not damage the environment or human health."

Damned if you do, and damned if you don't?
Hopefully this will not continue to be the situation.
Been goin' with gluten free organic cereal. Slowly making a full transition into an all organic diet. Started with free range organic meats and farm raised fish (ocean caught once a week). Been doin' omega-3, cage free organic eggs for a couple yrs now. Have to say I feel much better than in previous yrs. Still eating non-organic veggis and fruits tho. Oh but I been eatin' organic, gluten free potato chips too. They are surprisingly tasty, all natural Mmm :)
