There are a number of moods that you can choose
I got a case of the Memorial Day blues.
Not signing for some luxury cruise
Can't sit around the house all day and snooze,

There's so many things in life you can lose
Depending on your own personal views
So many ideas upon which you can chew
Except when everybody in your life leaves you,

Isolation is a disease that can kill
I can hear the cries mournful and shrill
And I need a companion and a lover still
Perhaps you wonder why don't I just chill,
Once there was a foolish young man
He entered life and love without a plan
Like trying to roll marbles on desert sand
It seems few dreamers are in demand,

Perhaps God looked down and wondered why
In a world that is so sly
Hard for a fool to get by
And that's just between you and I,
It's Memorial Day commemorating when so many died
I couldn't overlook it even if I lied
But to the partyers and charlatans it will always be denied
The collective reality that will always be defied,
I see families with all their kids
Picnic goodies beneath food container lids
Can't believe how far sown I've slid
As I stare into the eye of a pyramid,
How did things happen this way?
Precious memories seem betrayed
Eventually the joy simply fades
Happiness has been out of reach for decades,
But the gardens of stone still stand
Reminders who died from enemy hands
Their graves planted in foreign lands
Oh, but I'm just a foolish man.
