Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) is close to an agreement to buy Skype Technologies SA for more than $7 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unidentified people familiar with the matter.
An accord may be announced as early as today though the deal may still fall apart, the Journal reported. The report said that representatives for Microsoft and Skype declined to comment.
The purchase amount would make Skype among Microsoft’s largest acquisitions in its 36-year history moreComment
That sucks, I would say I hope the government would prevent them from doing this but as we all know thats not going to happen. Its a good move on microsofts part, I can see what they are doing. The next windows OS will come with skype embedded into it as well as the windows phones will have a skype feature to give the users unlimited calling in 4G areas. Its going to be a challenge to Vonage and other VOIP providers, Darth Gates has his sights set on the coming transfer from old Bell telephone system to VOIP Internet roll over. The Idea is to have only one communication connection going into a home a fibre-optic cable.
Really all tech is leading down the road to a single device that will be our only communication device and computer, not really a bad thing but I'd hope that an open source cell computer / tablet w/e is made available. The Iphones Win7 and Android all lock down your phone, open source ready phones would prevent the "system" from backdooring your cell and future all in one communication device/PC.
