Asked by a family member to recommend another family member for a low level job that i had previously offered but now I just cant. My reputation is on the line for a job I hate but need. I cannot afford to put my reputation on the line for a family member that maybe mediocre and no skills although i had offered a hand last year for the same person now they accept but I have just decided it is to late. They can still apply but I will not be giving this person a recommend...sad, but this is serious business with employment right now.

Nepotism is a no go if you are the one directly responsible for employing the individual into a position recommended and actioned by yourself and disregards input opportunities for others. That of cause would be an act of unfairness. Recommending people for a job is fine, one good way is to write a character reference for them outlining their attributes or nature. Your observations Only. Disregard unfavourable ones and focus on good ones you've noticed, Don't add anything else. I always write these letters by hand (to whom it may concern) and I tell people to take them to interviews and this has worked well. The purpose of the references suits employment issues but I have had some tell me they worked well for migration issues and one told me he took his to the district court and it was a big help.(Ha ha as soon as they see anything in real handwriting it seems to blow their mind these days. I don't know what it was with the court thing, maybe they believed the person was a worthless no-hoper and then suddenly a written letter turns up that disproves that and it's spoken of)
