Police pepper-spray eight-year-old boy throwing a tantrum

Police pepper-spray violent eight-year-old boy

Globe and Mail Update

What’s the appropriate way to calm an eight-year old who’s throwing a violent temper tantrum? Talk him down? Send him to the principal’s office? Pepper-spray him – twice?

Police in Lakewood, Colo., opted for the latter tactic to subdue Aiden Elliot after the second-grader threatened teachers and students with a piece of wooden wall trim, which he held like a knife.

“I kind of blow up a little,” the boy admitted to ABC News. “I said I’m going to kill you....”

Aidan, who is in a class for children with behavioural problems, said his teachers had put him in a corner for acting rowdy, and had called his mother. His confinement enraged him.

According to the Associated Press, when asked whether he really intended to injure anyone, Aidan responded: “A little.”

“I kind of deserved it,” he acknowledged.

Aidan’s mother Mandy Elliot said she is upset with the school, and is filing a complaint against the police.

“Why didn’t they talk to him?” she said. Or, we wonder, remove the stick from his hand? How hard can it be to disarm an 8-year-old?

“He was red, handcuffed, crying screaming how much it burned,” she said.

Ms. Elliot added that her son only acts out at school, and is never violent at home with babysitters and family members, nor is he violent at his soccer and swimming activities.

Police defended their decision, saying the situation forced them to act quickly and that no one was injured. School officials, meanwhile, told the press they’ve been seeing more elementary and pre-school students behaving violently, and are concerned about the problem.

You're response was quite predictable I must say.

I am many things. A professional is one, yes. You act like "professionals" don't swear on occasion or call a spade a spade. Don't be so surprised. Get out in the real world a bit and you may find it's different than the one you created for yourself inside your head. Or wherever it is dip-shits keep their brains these days.

@ KRYPKE - Dip-shit!? Really? That seems quite a bit childish for someone who is a "professional". Do you throw yourself on the floor and kick feet too when someone doesn't agree with you?

"It takes a village"  is actually a socialist/marxist term, they WANT a hand in raising your children...so that their agenda is ingrained in them.  I did just fine raising mine with family and friends as good role models.

Andy, Hillary's title came from African tribal villages.  This makes sense in small villages where everyone knows each other and everyone is dependent on the village for survival.  And while I do believe in helping your neighbor and looking out for the safety of their children, I don't want nor need them to raise my child nor do I want the responsibility of raising theirs.

I thought that was just a cliché "It takes a village", I never really gave it much thought as to what it meant or where it came from, But in the right way of thinking it is true, helping each other in a united godly way, in the right context of things.

It will be emotional with some but ,Maybe it is something that needs to be discussed regardless.

But it is best in a discussion like this to under-state than to overstate things, and help each other to be in balance . We can all learn from each other. Be Kind.

Wow, this post has stirred up much emotion and rightfully so. I think this would be a great topic to discuss in an RT..... or maybe not. As long as members don't get overly emotional and remain civil to one another (which could pose a challenge), I think this would make a great discussion.

And let's not forget who wrote the book titled, It Takes A Village.  It was Hillary Clinton and I do think she believes the government should get involved in anything to do with child rearing.  You the parent are responsible for your children and what kind of adults they become, NOT the village.  If you allow the  'village' to raise them, don't be surprised when they don't turn out so well.

@ Isacc Dus. So you're basically a eugenicist. So who makes that call on who needs to be "exterminated"? YOU? Hitler? Staling? George Soros? Or maybe the village itself? We could all get together and decide who's the most gifted? The Most Beautiful? The most talented in the arts? Are you all of those things? Do you have a bad back or no artistic talent to speak of? I'm quite sure I could find some of your faults that would put you on the list as well. Give my regards to Ms. Sanger when that decision is made........

It most assuredly does NOT take a village. Look at what the friggin village has done for society! The village can get the hell out of my business. Don't forget....more and more the "village" is becoming the NWO. That's what they want. That's why the schools have more rights than the parents at times. Just look into the case of Nate Tzeglin when you get the chance. Absolutely frightening. As far as sparing the rod goes, yes ...there's no doubt that these children need discipline but how far do you go? Pepper spraying an eight year old for God's sake??!! These children with behavioral disorders are BECAUSE of the village and their policies. They are the victims. Anyone thinking that these kids just need a good beating are moronic imbeciles that need the beating themselves. And if you said that to me in grocery store when my vaccine injured 9 year old was acting up, I'd be happy to oblige! Just my 2 cents.
