Prop 37 to Label GMO Foods Fails in California

It appears that the big advertising push by big food companies defeated the California's Proposition 37, a ballot initiative to require labeling of genetically modified foods (GMOs).

The last few weeks has seen a stunning reversal of poll numbers in favor of Prop 37. Nationwide polls consistently show around 90% of Americans support GMO labeling, and a month ago California polls showed over 60% supported labeling...

On election night, not long after the polls closed in California, the announcement came out: Prop 37 was losing. A little while later, it was all over. 37 had gone down to defeat.

But is that the whole story? No.

As of 2:30PM today, Thursday, November 8th, two days after the election, many votes in California remain uncounted.

I tried to find out how many.

It turns out that the Secretary of State of CA, responsible for elections in the state, doesn't know.

I was told all counties in California have been asked, not ordered, to report in with those figures. It's voluntary.

So I picked out a few of the biggest counties and called their voter registrar offices. Here are the boggling results:

By the way, it's only optional the precincts with thousands, even hundred of thousands of uncounted votes reports their tallies to the the Sec. of State.

Comment by Gary Harden on November 7, 2012 at 9:13pm: I live in WA state, HOPEFULLY we have learned from this election (although I DO believe there has been election fraud) and we WILL get this passed. GMO's WILL be banned one day in our state, or at least labeled.
