Position would give Senator “an influence on the direction the country goes”

Senator Rand Paul has left the door open for a potential VP slot – exclusively telling the Alex Jones Show that it is an honor to even be considered – although he said such a scenario was unlikely to unfold.
Paul was included on a shortlist of ten possible candidates to become Mitt Romney’s running mate by the Washington Post earlier this week. Speculation that Rand or his father Congressman Ron Paul could be in line for the VP slot has circulated for months.
As we reported last week, there is also discussion that the powerful Bilderberg Group will have a role to play in selecting Romney’s running mate at their upcoming confab, just as they selected both John Edwards in 2004 and Joe Biden in 2008 as Vice-Presidential candidates.
“If there’s a secret plan for that to happen it’s so secret that no one’s let me in on it yet,” remarked Paul, saying he doubted it would happen and that nobody from the Romney campaign had asked him about it.
However, the Kentucky Senator left the door open, adding, “I do tell people to be considered to be the Vice-President of the United States is an honor – I mean obviously it is – I know some people might not like hearing that but the truth is it is an honor to be considered and to know that you could have an influence on the direction the country goes.”
Speaking about the wider strategy behind Ron Paul’s presidential campaign, the Senator said it was now probable that Romney would collect sufficient delegates over the next two months to secure the nomination and that a brokered convention was unlikely.
However, Rand said there was still a chance that Ron Paul could secure a guaranteed position at the Republican National Convention, and he urged Republicans to reach out and make it happen, pointing out that the strength and passion behind the Ron Paul campaign has seen thousands of people attend his rallies of all different races, ages and economic status.
“You see much more diverse crowds at the Ron Paul rallies, and particularly the youth, than you see at any Republican function…the Republicans if they had half a clue would realize nationally that Ron Paul is a phenomenon getting five to ten thousand people at speeches, more than any other candidate, and they need to realize that they need that momentum and they need that to win in the fall, and I’m just hoping they will do some outreach to him to try to get him to participate in their convention” said Paul.
What do you think? Would Rand Paul running as Romney’s VP represent an opportunity to inject real constitutional ideas into the body politic – affording Rand a national platform in the VP debate to spread the message of liberty – or would it signify an attempt by the establishment to co-opt and dilute the entire Ron Paul Revolution of which Rand has become a leading light?
