TheLasersShadow, I did not pull up these numbers for this article. I do agree that it is a stretch to compare countries with such difference in population and laws, but I do think that the point the article was trying to make was that the (U.S.) police force is very much out of control when it comes to the use of force with guns (or for that matter any type of weapon at their disposal). The return of the soldiers from war back into society has left a complete over population of people that are trained to destroy life. In this the government has taken advantage of this and employed them as control enforcers, allowing the use to be justified.

Thats 85 fired in the line of duty, Germany has only 82 million people vs 310+ million here in the USA so right off the bat we're not talking equal comparison.  Add in the difference in gun laws, drug use, crime per capita and economy. Then get real numbers from the FBI -- which I couldn't readily find but I'm sure it's many times Germany's numbers even after compensating for population size. What you have above doesn't make sense.

Your premise is correct that we use much more deadly force here but most criminals here have guns vs Germany where it is much more difficult to obtain a gun. I do agree if we did a real comparison and factored everything in we would find that the culture of criminal government, police and people, the war on drugs and the biggest factor in my opinion the economics are what cause the USA to have the crime we do in turn creating the cops we have, fueled by idiocy of the public demanding the war on drug which is a war on the American people!!
