The Grasp of Futility
Does anyone know where the lost love goes?
Or that of the squawk of a black crow
Broken hearts freezing like new fallen snow
Some will tell you it's just life don't you know?
To some life's a pain in the neck
While the wicked seem to be on an adventurous trek
As the good are forced to prematurely eject
And what of the children we are supposed to protect?
If the earth is to be inherited by the meek and mild
Why has life left me so beguiled?
I almost could have sworn bitter fate has smiled
As the hearts of men fall victim to a woman's style,
If Jesus loved the church as a man should love his wife
Then why does love cut like a knife?
The human heart will never guide us through life
Finding myself seeking shelter from this strife,
It is said of Earth that evil shall reign
And women will have to give birth in pain
And those following rabbit holes will go insane
But we grope anyway for answers on this enigmatic plane,
I have to admit when we first met
That I'd could never have anticipated my regret
Looking back now I'd have say it was a fool's bet
Life's tragedies do cast a wide net,
In another life I heard the charge of the cavalry
Seduced by the illusion of overrated chivalry
Falling fatally wounded on the field of gallantry
Falling far short of any conceivable glory,
It's just life don't you know we're slapped to and fro
By forces we can never truly know
Asteroids will glow just before their fatal blow
You're in the grasp of futility and it shows,
If this little rhyme strikes you as a bit impure
Remember that the bitter taste of quinine is a cure
We are destined my friend until the end to be unsure
For we will never any of us escape the skewer.
