The Snare
Why should I care?
Turning away from a young girl’s stare
Everyone one I loved no longer there
Is there even any love left to spare?
Why should I care?
You left me in total despair
I remember the gray streak in your black hair
Transforming my world into a nightmare,
Why should I care?
Is there any love left anywhere?
Does this world have any sympathy left to spare?
Sister, do you have any love to share?
I had this dream of another world
I was living there as each moment unfurled
There I had another life and another chance
Another shot at romance,
Then the light came through the shades
My private world fell victim to a raid
Alas, what is dreamed of must be made
Every law of the universe obeyed,
Where did my dream world go?
Upon me a new life had been bestowed
Where I had love as good as gold
Where I was never afraid of growing old,
Oh, Lord what had you done?
It was all taken away and I was stunned
As if by the death throes I had been summoned
Because in the world of the living I’m shunned,
Why should I care?
From this height from which I stare
I never should have but I took the dare
And planted my foot solidly in the snare.
