Jeff.. the pirates have kidnapped members of several crews and still hold them. The pirates have held ships for ransom and have received many millions from various countries. The pirates are living it up and are supporting their respective economies so well that they are heroes to the villagers. It is bragged by the pirates that they have extorted about 20 million so far. Some of the kidnapped crew members have told of catered, gourmet meals, afforded them by the pirates, prepared by professional chefs. I personally question that one but the fact remains they have made money on the spoils of their thievery. Now, I don't even blame them if the countries they steal from are making their lives impossible. I don't think, however, they should be let off the hook for stealing money and not improving the very things with which you regale me. If they have millions, and they brag they do, they could help clean up the beaches and chase out illegal fishing vessels by the law. It seems they are no better at sharing money or compassion with their people anymore than you seem to think I am not.

Karen, the dumping of toxic waste, medical waste and nuclear waste by private companies working on behalf of the UK and the European Union is well documented. The waste, washing onto the shores of Somalia and causing sickness and death to Somalian people is well documented and there are no sailors that refuse to dump this waste. It has been dumped for years by private contractors representing developed countries.

The off-shore fishing, illegal, by multinational corporations representing EVERYONE from China to the US is equally well documented.

The people of Somalia can no longer effectively fish on their shores. The fish are gone. They are starving as a result. This too is well documented.

You have no clue. Sorry Karen, I would do the same thing and SO WOULD YOU if this was happening to YOU.
