Just about every historian either secular or Biblical scholar will agree that Jesus Christ did actually exist. While the atheistic culture might accept the existence of the Savior, they still deny that he was the son of God or had supernatural powers. While Christians embrace the fact that the son of God walked the face of the earth and in his short life spent that time healing the sick, instructing primitive people on a righteous afterlife, and set forth a moral code that contradicted greatly the savage conditions that prevailed in ancient times.
Does Modernization really mean being civilized?
We now live in a highly technologized world, but strangely cling to our ruthless human nature. The question begs to be answered. Are we really that civilized today compared to our ancestors? Are the trappings of convenience, comfort of our surroundings, ease of travel, and our immediate knowledge of the news really defining factors on our personal morality, our humanitarian spirit? Probably not! There is probably little that has changed within us apart from the advancements of science. Governments are still tyrannical, there is still stifling tax collection, people are senselessly murdered every minute, and if anything, we have become better at murdering the unborn, our foes from along impersonal existence, and we have rationalized the sheer horror of war as a thing we will never have to experience while millions die beneath its meat grinding claws since time immemorial.
The proof ignored
Recent discoveries by archaeologists in the Middle East frequently corroborate the writings of the Bible from the recent discovery of the Palace of Pontius Pilate, the Roman Emperor, to the massive public works built during the reign of King Herod. The names of cities previously unknown to university teams uncovering relics in the Holy Land are now being discovered by names as appeared in the Bible 2,000 years ago. Ask yourself how the name of an ancient city unknown to modern science but mentioned in the pages of the holy scripture is being unearthed as are many such dwellings that existed in the time of God's disciples?
As written
There are two well known forensic detectives who were skeptical of the resurrection of Christ until they carefully examined witness testimony and the consistency of the Biblical scripture and determined by standard investigative procedure that the proof of the crucifixion of Christ, the physical trauma suffered by Jesus, and the ancient customs that were practiced at that time all converge to bear out the true fate of our Savior. Medical experts have carefully compared Biblical accounts of Jesus last hours of life compared with the known practices of the Romans in conducting their horrific abuse of those who would be condemned to a crucifixion and it all becomes very clear.
The original rebel
In the words of author, John A. Keel, Christ represented an absolute revolution and a threat to the Pharisees(Jewish Priests) to their power as Christ led his entourage of saved and converted criminals, homeless, and prostitute followers who were now in his debt for forgiveness. It was the very righteous conversion of the sinner, the blasphemer, the adulterer, the thief, and the hopeless that sealed the Savior's fate. The Jewish Priests were not about saving souls but were about anointing themselves as more worthy of God than anyone else through the tedious rituals they practiced and the wealth they extracted from sacrifices. God, however, had other plans for his son.
A glimpse into death
Within hours of the night before the morning of his execution Jesus prophesied that he would be abandoned and betrayed by every one of his disciples who feared being caught alongside their master. While in deep meditation Jesus was said to have literally sweated blood as he contemplated the grisly fate that awaited him the next morning. This is an actually medical condition though rare, that under extreme stress, can exist. The fact that the son of God who possessed all the powers of his father, The Lord, and could have kept any harm from being done to him, and could have leveled the court of Pontius Pilate and the Pharisees who could have done nothing to stop him, but instead with the vulnerability of human form allowed himself to be sacrificed! This is extraordinary though it seems incomprehensible to us as mortals.
The general account
Though the sheer terror and pain involved in the torturous crucifixion of our Savior is almost unthinkable for us to realize with such brutality, most of us have some idea after all the years being raised among Judeo Christian awareness what actually happened even through the depictions by Hollywood. This has been covered over and over again and needs to be so that people realize.
The magical materialization
However, there is a bizarre reoccurring theme through out human history and legend, and that is the appearance of angels to mortals, especially at key moments in the affairs of destiny. So it was with the arisen messiah, Jesus, when a glowing messenger from God confronted the Roman soldiers tasked with guarding the sealed vault of Jesus. They either fled or fell unconscious until the arrival of Mary that following morning who was shocked at the appearance of this angelic entity who told her not to fear that the body of Christ was no longer within the vault for he had risen from the dead just 3 days after his execution and was now with the father in heaven though several accounts of Christ appearing to many of his astonished disciples that day are described.
Derived from the one
One night recall the old surviving aphorism "A doubting Thomas" used to this day, the expression originates from the disciple Thomas who so doubted that he was seeing Jesus that he was told to reach into the wound that had come from the spear of a Roman soldier as the savior nailed to the cross after the messiah had died a mortal death. "Go ahead, Thomas. Do you doubt me now?"
Comment
Mac, thank you for your comment!
Christianity has one lofty principle of "loving and serving our neighbours" which seems to be forgotten even for many church goers. That principle alone makes Christianity superior to religions promoting hate and despise for other faiths. I could mention at least two such creeds, but I let it be. The rest of Christianity; old testament describes the abuse system built in strengthened with myths that were further developed in the new testament. Without going into illogical Christian doctrines here it suffices to say that everyone has freedom to believe whatever as long as it's not harmful to the others. It may even be necessary to believe in something in order to maintain sanity in this insane world.
