Peering through the darkness on Christmas Eve
The question is do you still believe?
on a darkened night when he was conceived
To liberate an evil world that had been deceived,

To send a baby to earth who ended up crucified
Who told the truth and who lied?
Was humanity saved or forever denied?
Lord how you suffered as truth they defied

The blood of Jesus as I sware so alone I stare

All this on Christmas eve more than I can bare
Only so much blame we all can share,

I grasp through the darkness to see the light
My Savior it's way beyond fright
It's not just the unending night
Lord don't blind me to the truth so bright,

My misgivings pierce my soul
Where can I find a deep enough hole

To hide deep in the soil like a mole

Lost like an aviator over Chicken Shoals,

Somewhere we lost the true meaning 

Like an out of control car careening

Your eyes so seductively gleaming

The mass media propaganda beaming,

There was a time when I thought I knew her well

The righteousness of my country no need to sell

All of our soldiers for the freedoms that they fell

Yet we have a dumbed down public who can't even tell.
