Too Many Lies
Thinking of what being sentimental has done
Like watching paint dry and my blood run
Like being the expendable one
Seems only the cheaters have fun,
Hate to sound ungrateful you know
Standing on a spring day in a foot of snow
Like a soldier in a mine field wondering which way to go
Vague memories of love with nothing to show,
Unconditional love a, romantic notion
What I wouldn’t give for a love potion
A child’s toy on the floor of the ocean
The marks upon my life left by emotion,
Don’t recall thinking it could ever be like this
Disproportionate tragedy and flakes of bliss
In the darkness I hear a sinister hiss
Did I bump into you? Excuse me Miss,
Let me take an educated guess
How many times do we clean up somebody else’s mess?
How I foolishly thought we had a free press
Those who have fallen for our country God Bless.
I really thought I knew you better
I’d have gotten more loyalty from an Irish setter
Missed my calling as a jet setter
Though I can’t say, I'm sorry that I ever met her,
The years roll by like clouds in the sky
The regrets and joys, you often wonder why
Thinking back now there’s something in my eye
I began in life believing too many lies.
