Two popular Songs That Predicted the Police State to Come?
The Band Cheap Trick, mostly a phenomenon of the 80's MTV rock band trend may have stumbled on something in the song "The Dream Police" either by accident or as an entertaining prediction of the massive state surveillance of the future. You be the judge.
When the LA PD began acquiring and deploying military style attack copters for public surveillance they inspired this song by the band Spirit entitled "1984" at a time when few people were talking about George Orwell's predictive fiction novel. What does this tell us? Does art reflect society or does society immulate art?
Just as science fiction driving actual achievments in the real world science, it seems that the social commentary of art rock defines what ia happening in our society socially by the powers that be.
