Dream Act immigration reform bill to be put to US Congress this week Democrats hope the bill, which will offer path to citizenship to 2m illegal immigrants, will win over Latinos before mid-term elections
The US Congress is poised to vote this week on a bill that offers more than 2 million young illegal immigrants a path to citizenship, a move that will re-open the toxic debate on the issue ahead of the November mid-term elections.
The vote could come as early as tomorrow.
The bill is being introduced by the Democratic Senate leader, Harry Reid, and is facing widespread opposition from Republicans.
The Democratic party sees it as a no-lose situation. If the Republicans vote against, the Democrats hope this will cement their position as the party of the Latinos.
A Republican senator, John Cornyn, accused the Democrats of being "cynical and transparently political" rather than interested in genuine immigration reform.
The bill would allow young illegal immigrants to become citizens if they have completed a university or college education or served two years in the military.
Obama, responding to anger from Latino leaders this month at his failure to deliver on his pledge, urged them to get out and vote in November, and portrayed the Democrats as their friends and the Republicans as their enemies. He told Latinos not to forget "who is standing with you, and who is standing against you".
The Pentagon, struggling to maintain levels of recruitment in the face of troop demands in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere, is among the backers of the bill.
In a tactical device by the Democrats, the bill has been tacked on to legislation approving defence spending for next year, making it harder for the Republicans to obstruct it. If the defence spending approval is held up the Pentagon will have to seek emergency funding elsewhere.
The bill is labelled the Dream Act (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors) and insists that would-be students are of good moral character, came to the US before the age of 16, obtained a degree from an institute of higher education or "served in the uniformed services for at least two years and, if discharged, received an honourable discharge".
Supporters of the bill say that young people should not be penalised for the behaviour of their parents in entering the US illegally.
But opponents say it rewards lawbreakers. Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which opposes the bill, said: "At a time when our country is at war and our troops are fighting and dying in Afghanistan, the use of a bill to authorise funding for our military to benefit illegal aliens exemplifies why the American public has grown contemptuous of the way today's Washington operates."

And hurray for liberty than! You have the personal freedom to do as you wish with your earnings.
Still the bigger issue here is legality and constitutionality, ie liberty. I am a first generation American, my father came here legally after years of bureaucratic nonsense. He didnt ask for a thing but rather added to our society, But its a side issue, illegal immigration is just one small part of a larger problem and thats corps controlling our laws and enforcement of those laws.
As far as race and or prejudice, I wouldnt care nor would I change my opinion if the majority of these folks were lily white French Canadians entering the country.

well James aka adap2k I do donate, I do give .... I loan, feed, give rides, volunteer, use my video skills to document to help educate, I go to city council meetings, I go to homeless issue city meetings, I go to human rights meetings, I stop n talk on the streets, I go to my senators offices, I go to my House reps office , I was out protesting to save social security as cops dogged and followed us, I am so involved passionately with every inch of my life I cant do a single more thing.... but I will try to do the best ...And I care about the downtrodden and the ones with no privilege. I work to change laws and educate... I'm trying to make the world better for all...not just my conscience or my desires. I sometime have the hardest wall to get through when it boils down to (1) racism (2) Capitalism (3) Greed (4) Privilege & Power. All those four issue tend to drive some people who are vested heavily in those topics will argue and fight to the teeth to keep there (4) pillars.

This country is not the worlds policeman nor are we its savior. As mentioned below in other comments we have enough people in need that were here years before this migrant push. Hell most homeless people are vets, hey support our troops people, give them a job and a home.
Bills like NAFTA brought us to the place we are today. The multinational corps bought and paid congress have sacrificed this country for their own gain.
The nwo, aka global government crowd sticks these divide and conquer techniques down our throats. Our forefathers and those who see the true meaning of the constitution understand that we are not suppose to abandon our charity but to use private resources to help those in need.
I am antiwar and anti amnesty Joe, take some families in, you ask me to contribute , to take away from my family resources so we can appease your conscience.
So you feel for these people ? Start an organization, ask your employer to take out deductions in your pay to support helping the ones that are here, do something on YOUR own, but dont ask me to pay for it.
And damn right Mark, I dont have to allow someone in to my house so as they can survive. Its just that simple.
NO CUBE YOU WONT GET BANNED HERE FOR DISAGREEING. I would also thank you and others here not to make personal judgments about us as individuals or as a group.

Marklar, if they came here to rob steal and kill ..heck Deport them ..the majority are here helping our economy, working to be productive ..just like you and me ... Our country economy is fine with them and has been. The US economy is broke due to this damn war ...not migrant families. Make a stand. The laws need to be revised. These are not criminals. A human cant be a criminal by his nationality alone. Work to change these misguided laws...work in solidarity for justice and peace and compassion. Love ... Reach Out ...care for each other all over the world and everywhere...its fun and people are hungry for love.... its not the poor families coming here to survive that is the problem. These days corporations cross borders all the time for Capitalism and profit but a human being cant for his living? These days NAFTA and CAFTA destroyed economy's outside the US and caused people to migrate looking for work and survival. Our own governments "free Trade" has wrecked havoc on other countries and our own as we see no more jobs ...its not the poor people fault. They are the victims in this example. They are our neighbors, brothers, sisters, and friends.... I am preaching love and tolerance, not Divide and Hate!

It has nothing to do with hate or race and everything to do with ILLEGAL. A nation has every right to control it's borders. I can understand what drives them to come here and I sympathize with their plight and feel that it is those who employ them illegally that should be dealt with harshly. I can even get behind certain immigration reforms but those who come here illegally need to be deported which is a rather minor punishment fitting a minor crime no matter what the color of their skin.

The major problem with patriot groups or Constitutionalist types is that too many of them want to restore 18th century attitudes of hate against certain groups.
The ones deserving of our universal animosity are those abusing our Republic to establish a dictatorship; what the so-called fore-fathers resisted against so vehemently.
The dictatorship is very talented at distracting you.
The focus should be on undoing what the dictatorship has done in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
War, Taxes, Police Brutality against our Constitutionally guaranteed Rights to Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom to CARRY Weapons… but some people are more interested in HATING.
The Constitution stopped short of describing exactly WHO was deserving of these guarantees, and the Declaration of Independence neglected to establish that the “unalienable Rights,” were limited to certain people within certain borders (have you ever wondered why?).
What disappoints me the most it that this group is supposedly populated with some of the most Awakened people on the internet and yet they fall for the same smoke & mirrors gags that have kept this world in the grip of the elites for so long.
