Who is That Man in The Mirror?
I loved you how I loved you
But like a long gone ripple in a pond
You faded away like the morning dew
Whatever happened to that bond we knew?
Forever vanquished, tried, lied, and true
Like a denizen of the sea beached from a sea of blue
I think all the flowers have crept away from my view
Is this the hemlock I am cursed forever upon which to chew?
My inability to look into the future
With a broken heart needing a suture
Who is that man looking back at me from the mirror?
All the mistakes I made becoming ever clearer,
The long gone ripple in a pond
A long dead echo that has since moved on
For so long the curtains of life have been drawn
Sacred echoes of the heart when all has gone wrong,
Is it appropriate that life has become a wintery breeze?
Cold and unflinching even when I’m on my knees
Those longings for the flesh that will tease
Where are those intimate moments of wine and cheese?
I remember being the captain of my ship
Until I realized the waves of heartbreak had me in their grip
And the control I thought I had away it slipped
My little mermaid overboard she flipped,
Beneath the waves she disappeared
Slipping away the worst of my fears
To the watery grave of barnacles and piers
As the waves washed away my tears,
The long gone ripple in a pond
Forgotten echoes that will travel on
Is there any place left where I belong?
I wearily await the gates of dawn.
