In 1992 Randy and Vicki Weaver were living in the mountainous region of northern Idaho in order to escape what they believed to be a society corrupted by the oppression of the new world order.
Vicki, who was considered the spiritual leader of the family, believed that the apocalypse was near and became convinced they would survive in the rugged mountains of Idaho.
When the couple moved to the region in the 1980s they intended to homeschool their children and live out their lives apart from the ever-growing scrutiny of a government that appeared intent to monitor every move of the citizens, particularly those it had identified as 'dissenters.'
In the years that followed, Randy Weaver would be accused of various and sundry 'crimes,' such as federal weapons violations and 'plotting to overthrow the government.' He was also falsely accused of belonging to the white supremacy group 'Aryan Nations,' although there is no record of Weaver's membership in the group. Weaver did, however, attend a meeting with a neighbor, which led to his involvement with a government undercover informant, who had infiltrated the meeting.
The federal government's involvement with Weaver, however, revolved around the allegations of weapons violations. An undercover agent of the ATF--the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, began meeting with Weaver in an attempt to gain information about such allegations.
The situation grew tense when Weaver was charged with weapons violations but resisted arrest. What took place next would result in two senseless murders, an investigation into a rogue FBI and ATF, and the official discipline of several federal agents, who, by the way, had acted contrary to the U.S. Constitution in the siege, according to the findings of a 1995 Senate subcommittee.
This report delineates the various atrocities--and their consequences--committed at the hands of a rogue federal government.
The gist of the atrocities committed in the government-initiated massacre can be summed up in the words of the FBI Deputy Assistant Director Danny Coulson, who wrote the following memo at the time:
'Memo:
OPR 004477
Something to Consider
1. Charge against Weaver is Bull Shit.
2. No one saw Weaver do any shooting.
3. Vicki has no charges against her.
4. Weaver's defense. He ran down the hill to see what dog was
barking at. Some guys in camys shot his dog.
Started shooting at him. Killed his son. Harris did the
shooting [of Degan]. He [Weaver] is in pretty strong legal position."'
ATF agents opened fire on the family, killing the Weavers' 14-year-old son Samuel with a shot to the back. And, although she was unarmed and holding the Weavers' infant daughter in her arms, the agents opened fire on Vicki Weaver as well, killing her instantly.
Now, 18 years later, William Shatner conducts a sensitive interview of one of the survivors of the incident--Sara Weaver--daughter of Randy and Vicki Weaver. "Aftermath" with William Shatner is airing on the Biography Channel, the promo for which can be found here.,
