This article is for friends only cause of google and their spying techiques and the threats to roll in internet 2.
I wanted to get ready for the future so I decided that I should prepare my radio station to go DRM. DRM is a mode that is used in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North and South America, and also Antarctica. It uses
mainly open sources to get on the air. I have been experimenting with it, but I have no receiver yet for it. I am
working on saving up for a C.Crane SW which is affordable and has a IF output jack for a converter box that converts the 455 kHz signal into a 12 kHz signal. Why I am doing this? First, it gives me something to
do just in case we have all go digital. Second the sound quality is better than traditional AM. And Third I am encouaging others who run a part 15 to start a digital station just to show that HD radio is for the commericial broadcasters and you have to be part of the NAB. Part 15 AM radio could do DRM since the source is open while HD radio is closed source. GCC Radio is a Open Source kind of hobby. If this is successful, then I can air the Alex Jones Show in a digital near FM quality sound on AM, while the FM broadcast is used for music.
To get started in Digital Radio Monodiale reception you will need a computer, like we always have in the household.
1. A DRM digital decoder fornally Dream Software for those zeroes and ones to be decoded into real time audio.
2. A converter box which is a IF 455 kHz to 12 kHz down converter.
3. A radio with a IF output, many manufactuers need to put this IF out on many receivers to just connect the converter box. I will share the modification when it becomes available.
WTRH-AM will be going digital around the middle of June after I get my DRM converter for the receiver. I hope you if you have the technology to join me on the digital radio sessions. If it's successful, which it will be, WTRH-AM will be all digital. Main reason is that the signal is weak and cannot be received too well, so I am trying a digital approach and hear it on my computer. Remember AM radio is dying and losing listeners due to the poor quality audio. Other stations are going digital so can we. It's 2010 and AM analog radio is dying due the interest of HD radio transmission. Right now the station is under a practice mode and experimentation with the software.
THE EXPERIMENT IS PUT ON THE BACK BURNER UNTIL I CAN GET A RECEIVER, WHICH WILL BE JUNE OR WHENEVER IN THE FALL! GCC RADIO HAS SUSPENDED OPERATIONS TO GO SILENT DIGITALLY.
If you read the article why DRM is not a success you know one reason why GCC radio broadcasting has suspended the operations of DRM. Why? No Listeners! That's Why. The FCC and Chinese manufacturers is held to blame for not giving us listeners access to international broadcast digital radio reception so that means there are not enough listeners here in the local area. . DRM is free, but the FCC is making us pay top dollar for a premium receiver, software, etc just like HD radio (which is junk) to receive digital shortwave. FCC thinks that we need to live with all poor quality and chinese made receivers with faulty components and poor reception. FCC and China are so jealous to the American people!! FCC is the problem why we cannot get things quicker here, cause of their stringous, approval testing techniques and being shipped back to China, and is the main leading cause of recalls and importation problems, So basically everything here has be freaking AM or FM radio not LW, MW, SW and FM radio here in the USSA. And it's not just receivers it's transmitters, There is a DRM transmitter from Greece that sells for $320 and it works good with the computer, damn it, the FCC will probably reject the device for being used in the USA. I am cutting back on Chinese buffet lunches and dinners!
