WTRH-AM - Longwave Stations Jammed By NDB For A Secret Reason


This where the loop antenna comes in very handy than just a long wire antenna. The Yacht Boy 400 PE and G4000A is a very good LW radio. I have always wondered why in the world is people having trouble receiving LW broadcasts in the 150 kHz to 280 kHz range? Why those FAA approved beacons that are usually located in the 190 kHz to 520 kHz range. If you have a long wave radio you see why. Here are some stations that you should hear with and without the beacons. The beacons are there to provide navigation to aircraft and ships, but are also there to jam up your DX catches. The FAA should move the beacons to 300 kHz and above not down at 190 kHz to 300 kHz. That is interference to a international radio station!

153 kHz - Algeria - In The Clear
162 kHz - France - In The Clear
171 kHz - Morocco - In The Clear
180 kHz - Germany - In The Clear
183 kHz - Germany - In The Clear
189 kHz - Iceland - In The Clear

This is where the tricky part starts and needs a big loop antenna! These stations would be great addition to your log book if you have a loop antenna.

198 kHz - UK - Jammed By Beacon DIW (Strong NDB)
207 kHz - Morocco - Jammed By Various Various NDB's
216 kHz - France - Jammed By Beacon CLB and Various NDB's
225 kHz - Poland - Jammed By Various Non Directional Beacons
234 kHz - Luxenbourg - Jammed By Various Non Directional Beacons
252 kHz - Ireland - Jammed By Beacon LLW and Various NDB's
261 kHz - Russia - Jammed By Various Non Directional Beacons
270 kHz - Czechoslovakia - Jammed By Various NDB's
279 kHz - Isle of Mann - Jammed By Various NDB's

An active antenna will not work, but a directional active loop will.
