Well, if there ever is or ever was a justification for such behavior, then retaliating in kind for being murdered and robbed as they have been is certainly it.

But why see this as justification. I don't think anyone thinks that this SHOULD be happening but to see it in the black white terms that the media presents IS a blatant lie. If we simply bomb them into oblivion others will simply take their place in a never ending cycle of destruction.

Admitting that we have fostered the conditions which makes large numbers of their population turn to piracy does NOT equal justification, but if we cannot take responsibility for our own actions then how can we expect that they should? That is just more of the same bullshit American exceptionalism that is destroying the world.

Remember they had the government you are suggesting they should build. WE knocked it down. Why should they build another when we will just knock it down again? Even piracy makes more sense than THAT.

If they where freedom fighters they would try to get a real government formed they would try to care about their country rather than going striking out at anyone whether or not they or their country has anything to do with their poverty. Its like a homeless man robbing someones home or stabbing a random person because he got a bad shake in life. Their own quasi government has screwed them and these pirates are not giving anything to the poor over there they just steal and murder what they want. They aren't even low grade Robbin hoods let alone freedom fighters. I like you Jeff but the little guy in this situation isn't doing what they should to help themselves out, they only alienate themselves more and more every time they take a ship. Lashing out and robbing for personal gain is wrong no matter how bad it is. The food ships they steal they don't distribute to their country men they hold it ransom and wait for cash because thats what this is all about for them, a job. There are many factors to this situation but after I look at all the contributing problems and what they are doing I have to say they are in the wrong and if they get shot to bits trying to rob American flagged ships I'm not going to care thats how life works. They might get away with it and they might die they know that. Hopefully they stop before the madmen in our gov declare a war on pirates, that would just be a great excuse for us to invade Somalia. We need a foot hold in Africa and having a black president makes me think they really might try this.

If Americans were capable of actually placing themselves in the position of a Somali they would have a different perspective. Americans are incapable of assuming the life of a Somali. Let me repeat that. Americans are not capable of assuming a Somali life.

When western countries are dumping their garbage in your country, stealing the food that you survive on, raping your countryside of its natural resources and providing arms to your neighbors to maintain your destabilization the future is indeed bleak.

It isn't that Somali's don't want peace. They had it quite recently. An Islamic government was formed and piracy ceased. The United States and Israel didn't want an Islamic government there and armed Ethiopia who then invaded and created Anarchy once again. Remember, quite recently piracy was completely halted by a legitimate Islamic government that was overthrown by a western armed Ethiopia. The United States, the UK and Israel want anarchy in Somalia and are paying the price.

These teenage pirates are simply the freedom fighters we had here during the American Revolution. Look around yourself. Western countries do one thing very well. They rape and pillage African, Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian countries while condemning those who fight against them as terrorists. To be sure, if the US labels a person a terrorist you can be quite confident that they're fighting for their freedom. Think about it.

I agree with you LS. Like you said, the Somalians are basically living in complete chaos, with no leadership, people are starving and there's little to no education. When that's all you know can you do any different? I blame most of this situation on the corrupt leaders over there who have sold out there people to line their own pockets, keeping them in a perpetual state of slavedom and the westerners who have stolen much of the wealth in Africa, given them aids and a swollen tummy. The pirates are not innocent but who's the most to blame?

Very true I understand they are desperate but the entire country of Somalia needs to get their act together and change there predicament. That won't happen because i believe that they are incapable of choosing a leader or saving them selves I'm not being racist but they don't exactly have schools like the rest of the world its like asking a 10 year old here to come up with a plan to solve Somalia's problems. They have never had prosperity like us, they where only successful before the industrial revolution. African nations always seem to elect or be ruled by sellouts the biggest sellout continent on earth. They rightly call them "uncle toms" most all African leaders screw the people they represent or rule. The reason normally is due to European or American business's buying them off, so the entire world including the Somalians themselves have destroyed Somalia and what it could be. Pirating ships though is not part of the solution and only further disassociates them from help from the western world. Most all real leaders trying to make a change have to live very poorly and over time normally after there deaths are there dreams realized. The people doing pirating are only looking out for themselves as are the corporations that dump the chems and radioactive material. The Somalians don't seem to want to make a stand for their country but just themselves, MLK was the opposite and because of that he lead his people to a victory over racism and segregation.

I do not agree with murdering and stealing at all my friend but I also know there is a reason for everything that happens in life whether good, bad or indifferent. The Somolians have been driven to desparation as many who have lived through severe oppression for years and years. If the United States falls as hard as Argentina, Somalia, Central America, and the many other countries out there driven into squalor, poverty and degradation, could many of us be driven to murder and stealing to survive? When people need to feed themselves and their families, sometimes some will go to any means to do it especially when they're starving. I'm not saying it's right but I understand why someone might go to those extremes. Like I said, there's always a reason behind everything.

Would you guys say the same about the Exxon Valdez spill thats still very much a problem for the locals? Are the Eskimos now justified to Rob Fishing boats and Oil ships? The thing with logic is that it has to apply to all things to be logic or its just someones opinion and not logic/ justifiable. I'm not getting down on you at all Tara just i don't agree with this logic that these pirates are justified to rob and kill. Its one thing if they where going after the exact ships dumping crap on them but these guys are attacking every ship they can that have nothing to do with the criminal corporations.
