it worked for me. just don't do anything for 2 weeks. try to sing in and it will say that the email address does not have an account on fb.

Aha Jicky, I went through the process of canceling FB and was not impressed that after conformation I was informed that I could reactivate the whole account, content and all, just by signing in again. Attempting escape is futile!
