Beyond Our Control
No one is in my constellation
A perpetual state of alienation
No false sense of consecration
I never intended self-imposed isolation,
I’m here but not really where I belong
Like singing a silent song
I fear something is dreadfully wrong
The shadows how they grow so long,
Perched upon the branch of a fallen tree
Nothing really making sense to me
Can’t seem to walk upon this shimmering sea
Time and space have me on my knees,
The smell of perfume in an empty bedroom
Might as well be a seductive tomb
I need a drink to chase away the gloom
Enveloped within this sycophantic cocoon,
This planet so beyond our control
Upon so many it’s taken its toll
Flight 19 lies somewhere off of Chicken Shoals
Fear I’m falling into another black hole,
Lord how many second chances?
My gaze shifts from uncomfortable glances
Inundated by fatalistic romances
Were there any lives that my influence enhances?
Struggling with this uphill climb
Swear to God it wasn’t my own crime
Wasting away in linear time
Astonished at the world’s decline.
