CSS on your Social Network
  • Adding your own CSS gives you full control over the fonts, color, spacing, and general style of your Ning Network.
  • The CSS styles you add here will override any existing CSS styles you may have chosen earlier.
  • Need help learning some CSS basics? We recommend starting at W3Schools to get a basic primer on CSS.
  • Need help figuring out the name of a specific CSS class on your Ning Network? We recommend the "Inspect" feature of the free Firebug extension (for the Firefox browser).

Damn that sucks, but workable. Can we test the new CSS without it going live on the site?

I guess we have to work mostly within their css structure. I was hoping we could <? php include ?> the modules (CMS content) into our own custom template pages and just over-ride their CMS generated CSS code where we see fit.

So I guess.. we can start by customizing any of those templates. Doesn't matter which since we will basically modify every CSS element in it.

Definitely need a sandbox to play in with it.

Can we create a free ning page as a dummy and still get these customization options? I suppose it would be basically the same as this paid version.

I have no idea WTF you are talking about, but I really appreciate the effort.

This site is BEGGING for a design overhaul.

In Gratitude...

Welcome and NP. Just doing my small part to help out.

Situations like this we call "changing a tire while the vehicle is moving". It can be a PITA so usually big sites dont get overhauls. I've done it a lot though so its not a big deal here.

Gotta be careful too. James is being responsible. Big changes can hurt us as much as help us, if done incorrectly... Look at that Obama change and what its done~

Webster's is expanding upon the definition of "change" to include "barbed dildo".

CSS = Cascading Style Sheets

not going to be able to do much as long as we're a ning network hanger-on, see your "choices" above..

that's it, that's all...hope ya had a ball!!, Lets have another one, just like the other one!!!

Yeah, I see what u mean about ning now. Very limited, but not a bad platform for the price.

The API will open ning up in a big way allowing big sites that are getting cramped the freedom to grow.

Aye ;)

Damnit, https://www.ning.com/pricing/

Have to give them a Credit Card to get the free 14 day trial. I don't have a CC, lol.

However, that "ULTIMATE" package $99/moth has API. That is exactly what we want! Do we have that option James? Then we can have 100% flexibility to do whatever we can dream of. The API feature is still marked as "coming soon".

API stands for Application Programming Interface, which means, we can have our own code talk to ning's code to extract the CMS content, then do anything and everything with it.

Was thinking since the pages are on http://12160.info and not something like http://12160.ning.com or http://www.ning.com/12160, that we could customize the source code rather than stay within the box of their customization interface. Is the ning software a package installed on a private server or is it all actually hosted at ning? Either way we can get it done.

The only concern I have is that some CSS wont work in their "customization box". For example the "position: fixed;" that we use to pin a menu to the top of the page.

We can only determine that out after trying it out because it depends on the parent CSS properties. Typically, I customize the raw source code to avoid that potential problem.
