I was in Hiroshima on August 6, 1968, 23 years after the first A bomb fell. I was privileged to meet one of the 25 Hiroshima Maidens who came to the US (see below middle picture) for plastic surgery. The woman I saw was horribly scarred even though it had been 13 years since her multiple surgeries at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York and now she could easily move her neck. She was polite and kind as ...I sunk down in my chair. Embarrassed to be American I contemplated speaking in an British Accent to hide myself. (True: I was 18 yrs old) The museum was horrific though Peace Park was refreshing as Japan vowed to keep the flame burning as a reminder "against war and nuclear weapons". I saw the lunchbox of a school child melted into a flat object and the slab of cement showing a shadow where a body melted into it. Since my Country had helped to rebuild their cities they were grateful. The ensuing radiation illnesses and constant reminders of WAR was held deep inside their beings as their faith and culture demanded it. The young girls so horribly maimed were shunned and hidden from society for ten years until Norman Cousins and his Wife, Ellen organized their flight to America for reconstructive surgery. The only housing he could provide was lovingly offered by the "Quakers" who shared their homes for a year while the women healed from their multiple surgeries. If I seem to be harping on the possibility of our involvement in Syria it is because I have seen the devastation first hand though in the museum and talking to survivors of what nuclear war delivers. The Middle East is a Hotbed and many as well as US and Russia have Nuclear Weapons. I will cry out in the desert as in Biblical Days and Pray to my God for NO war. I think the first people allowed in heaven will be the Quakers because they understand the word PEACE. I am a gun toten Grandma who could never be a Quaker because I believe in Fighting JUST wars only. May God protect us from ourselves as we Pray for our Enemies (and I mean those idiots who call themselves Leaders) to change their minds.
