This weekend America witnessed a limited crash in the computer systems that manage electronic benefit transfers across the country. Within hours of the crash panicked food stamp recipients who were left with no way to feed their families rushed grocery store shelves to obtain everything they could while the system was down.
The outage lasted less than a day, but it proved what many already knew, that America had become a nation so dependent on government subsidies that any glitch in the system could lead to total pandemonium.
But if you thought that isolated incident was bad, imagine what could happen next month.
We say next month because the USDA, which oversees the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), has just issued an order to SNAP agency directors calling for their respective States to implement an emergency contingency program because of government funding issues. In a letter obtained by the Crossroads Urban Center food pantry, the USDA is directing state agencies to, “delay their November issuance files and delay transmission to State Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) vendors until further notice.”
What this means is that should Congress fail to increase the debt ceiling this week, come November there will literally be millions of people in the United States who will have exactly zero dollars transferred to their EBT cards.
What will happen to the nearly 50 million people who depend on these benefits to survive?

When my kids were young I used the food stamp program, SNAP, program as long as I needed it. When I got on my feet in my world, which compared to most of the world was still below poverty level. I went to the then DHS, not Department of Homeland Security, it used to be Department of Human Services, I told them I had a decent job and thought I could make it without state assistance. My case worker set back in her chair and looked at me and said,"Are you sure Ms. **********?" I said, "Yes, I want to try. Can I come back if I find out I can't make it without food stamp assistance?"
Ms ********* you do not have to leave the program, we can work it, to make it look like you removed yourself and your family from the system, but you won't be without benefits." I told her I wanted to get off the system completely. A couple of months later I received a letter in the mail telling me I could reinstate my benefits without any penalty on my families behalf.
This program is a benefit to the government only. Even though I could not have fed my children without it they did not encourage us to become independent by teaching us to grow our own food or raise live stock, they encouraged us to lean on them. If it had not been for the learning I had received from my Grandmother and my Mother, I would have been lost. The program is used to control the recipients. I am proof of that. I had this happen to me first hand. No doubt people will laugh or not understand but it fact. I can also tell you they are there to keep you dependent.
They do not teach you to feed your family from the land, they do not want you to remember the lessons taught you as a child, from you Grandmother or Mother or Father or Grandfather, they want you dependent on the chemical laden food they provide through the SNAP program, (food stamps) that make you ill and dependent on the Pharmaceutical Companies!! Wake-up America, remember where you came from and the survival techniques our fore fathers knew, before the chemicals remove it completely from your memory!

So far the only conclusive connection is that it is at the same time.
Here is some perhaps shocking info : shit goes down!
The signs go up at our local stores all the time, every few months.
EBT has been down numerous times before and the average recipient gets bummed and waits to try again later .
