Crack At OH Nuclear Plant Spurs Nuclear Opponents

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Anti-nuclear activists have stepped up their opposition to renewing the license of an Ohio atomic energy plant after a 30-foot hairline crack was discovered in concrete at the facility.       

Contractors replacing the cracked reactor head at the Davis-Besse plant outside Toledo recently discovered a small crack in thick concrete on the outside of the reactor's containment building.    

Federal regulators issued a preliminary report Friday saying the crack poses no "immediate safety concern" and is in non-structural, architectural concrete, The Blade of Toledo reported.    

But The Blade also reports that the crack has prompted activists to urge Toledo's City Council to approve a resolution opposing the plant's license renewal in 2017.
