This subject is worthy of a group in and of itself. In case anyone hasn't noticed, there aren't any jobs left in America, and the ones that are still left are being shipped overseas. I don't have time or desire to go into it right now, but I'm reasonably convinced that the American dollar as we know it today will cease to exist within ten years, most likely a lot less. The important thing is to prepary now. Preparing for that event is not nearly this simple, but to answer the question: "How do you live off the grid, without a job?" is by trading (and not in stocks or bonds either).
If you really are truly disabled, then I really do believe that you should be provided for from the government. It's the decent, humane thing to do. Most (not all) people "on the dole" are not disabled, they're just playing the game to get free money. Now, if you are physically disabled, you're included in the next paragraphs too. What ideas can you contribute to your and others' success?
If you're "able-bodied" like the rest of us, don't short change yourself-- most people do. REALLY think about it:
What benefits to others from goods and services can you produce yourself? Can you sew? Can you cook? Can you fix an automobile? On and on.... In other words, you don't NEED a job to be useful to others. From that usefulness you can trade your way into bettering yourself and your family. You don't NEED a job to trade :)
Flash! Money is not required to trade. After the dollar crashes, money will be useless anyway. There is the story of the woman who brought a wheelbarrow FULL of hyper-inflated Deutchmarks to the bakery to buy a single loaf of bread. The wheelbarrow was too big to get in the front door so she left it outside where she could see it. While she was haggling the loaf of bread, thieves came by and dumped all the money and took off running with the wheelbarrow. I tell this story to make a point in that when trading, what you think something is worth is no longer valid. You are trading "something of value" for "something of value". So, if you are a plumber and I am a doctor, an hour of your time teaching me about plumbing (so I can fix my sink when it breaks again) is still worth an hour of my time teaching you about medicine for when you get sick.
Trading is ALL about networking. It's not what you know, it's who you know. In other words, if you know someone who wants something really badly, and you know someone else that has that thing, you stand to make a profit :)
