Minuteman, the 2 meter base is up and running, will connect power to the Kenwood HF rig tonight but still lack an antenna and mic for it. Going to browse the low profile book over the weekend to decide what to do about the HF antenna so that I can at least being to monitor 10 meter. Am following on Ebay for the antenna.
Wondering if you would like to attempt to connect on simplex on the 2 meter. I'm curious to see how far out I can get running full power 65 watts with the new antenna.

Well, alright man you are well underway! Those connectors can be a bugger. The last thing you want in the shack is a loose connection of any sort. So the rig is working well and that's good. I assume you got a mic for it then? Are you running on a 10 meter net?

Sounds like you are almost there, congrats!

I picked up an end fed half wave wire antenna to freak around with portable style. Supposedly you can do a sloper, vertical, horizontal and half square with this type with great result, high efficiency, fair bandwidth and rapid deployment.

The HF Packer 45W amp came in today as well in kit form. Time to get winding and soldering... The turk bird will have to come first though.....

Going QRT through the holiday now Jed, Jonesey and all. Little girl is coming home from college, Son is making his last T-Day desert before he ships out for service. Friends and family making their way in to the area for visits. Hope you all have a great day tomorrow...

Minuteman, power supply arrived last night and was installed within an hour. gutsy little thing, feedback from our local net group with me only putting out 10 watts, of the possible 65 watts my Yaesu will put out, was very positive with no mention of noise at all. Only complain I have is the unit uses an IEC connector on the back to which an IEC cord (like the power cord for a desktop computer) fits. Poor connection there, and I will quickly determine whether it's a poor fit due to the IEC socket, or the cordset. I'll just grab one of the many IEC cordsets I have and try one of them.
