Copy editors at the New York Times who face possible layoffs sent a letter to management Wednesday protesting the newspaper’s proposed changes.
Addressed to executive editor Dean Baquet and managing editor Joe Kahn, the letter takes aim at the “humiliating” process of forcing copy editors who might be on the chopping block to re-apply for their jobs.
The Times is currently reorganizing its copy desk in an effort to speed up its editing and shift more resources toward reporting, the paper has said.
The shuffle includes offering buyouts to many copy editors — and forcing others to undergo arduous rounds of re-hiring interviews, according to the letter obtained by the Daily News.
