Mayor Coleman said this week that he was cooperating with a federal subpoena for evidence, but that "I had no involvement in the decision to award the contract to Redflex."

Then Thursday, 10 Investigates broke news of FBI agents questioning Mayor Michael Coleman’s former wife.

The questions they asked of the former Mrs. Coleman had nothing to do with Redflex. Instead questions were all about the sale of their house in 2010.

Frankie Coleman told 10 Investigates FBI agents asked her about gifts – including jade earrings and necklaces and a traditional Chinese dress.

Coleman said the gifts came from Chinese Businesswoman Jianhua Li. Li owns a Chinese Medical supply group.

Robert Hsieh with the city’s development office tells 10 Investigates Li was interested in expanding business in Columbus.

Frankie Coleman said she developed a friendship with Li that all started with the sale of their home.

Li approached the Coleman’s realtor Mike Jones in 2010 and showed interest in the Coleman home.  Jones said he represented both the Colemans and Li.

The Coleman’s Berwick home was the only one Li looked at in person. While viewing the Coleman’s home for the first time, Li made an offer.  

Li negotiated with the Colemans that same day and bought it for $520,000. Neighbors say Li has not lived in the house since.

Coleman denies any wrongdoing, releasing a statement Thursday evening: "There is no basis for anyone to suggest that we sold our home for more than it was worth or that there was anything inappropriate about the transaction."
