(CNN) – The previously announced Republican presidential debate sponsored by CNN and the Republican Party of Florida will be held Jan. 26 in Jacksonville, Florida.

"CNN and RPOF are going to make this debate the best opportunity for our presidential candidates to continue their dialogue with Floridians," RPOF Chairman Lenny Curry said. "With a date exactly halfway between the South Carolina and Florida primary dates, this debate will be the must-attend event for this great field of Republicans."

The South Carolina primary is scheduled for Jan. 21 and the Florida primary is scheduled for Jan. 31.

CNN poll: Dead heat in Florida

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Hosts are CNN, the Republican Party of Florida and the Hispanic Leadership Network
  • Thursday's event will be the second debate this week
  • It is also the last debate before the Jan. 31 presidential primary in Florida

Tune in to CNN at 8 ET Thursday night as the GOP candidates debate the issues from Jacksonville days before Florida's primary. Watch it live on CNN.com/Live and CNN's mobile apps. Lea el artículo en español/Read this article in Spanish.

Jacksonville, Florida (CNN) -- There will be four candidates on the stage Thursday night at the final GOP presidential debate before the Sunshine State's primary, but for the two men in the middle, the spotlight might be a bit hotter.

The latest public opinion polls suggest that the battle for Florida's 50 winner-take-all delegates -- the largest catch so far this primary and caucus season -- is turning into a two-man race between former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. According to a CNN/Time/ORC International survey released Wednesday, 36% of people likely to vote in Tuesday's Republican primary in Florida say they are backing Romney as the party's nominee, with 34% supporting Gingrich. Romney's 2-point margin over Gingrich is well within the survey's sampling error. http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/26/politics/republican-debate/index.html...
