As usual, to ferret out the root of a problem (in this case, ridiculous laws against cannabis and industrial hemp production and use), follow the money:

1. Cannabis is a threat to big pharma profits.

2. Industrial hemp is a threat to lumber, mining, steel manufacturing, and big oil industries.

2. Legalized cannabis would threaten bank income from money laundering derived from the illegal drug trade.   One example:

"Britain’s financial regulator has fined the British queen’s bank for money laundering failures as a French presidential candidate has said part of the queen’s fortune 'comes from drug trafficking.'
