In case you didn’t know it yet, we don’t live in a perfect world that is fair to everyone all the time! Wars cause deaths to civilians and young men who will never live to raise a family, your rights may be erased for very vague reasons like national security, your privacy has been destroyed for the sake of corporate interests, and the looming threat of militia men and alleged white supremacists whether they are truly threats or not. You may be forced to take an untested vaccine and potentially harmful serum for the sake of public health! All for what? So, that you can feel safer as long as more of your Constitutional rights are compromised?
The year is 1942 just weeks after Pearl Harbor is devastated by a surprise Japanese aerial attack. Some 2500 people are dead, 8 American battle ships are sunk or severely damaged, and almost 200 US warplanes lay burning wrecks on the runways, strafed and bombed by Japanese Imperial combat aircraft. Now we have heard how cruel and inhuman it was to force 227,000 Japanese naturalized Americans to be sent to detention camps. Yes, they lost their homes, property, businesses, and some even their sanity, why? Here is the story. So put yourself back in that moment in time when the public was desperate, angry, and afraid for their country, and what happened to set the events that followed off.
Of over 356 Japanese attack aircraft, only 29 pilots and their planes will never come home, but the damage done to Pearl would set back the defense of American territory for bloody months to come and many more lives would be lost as the ruthless tactics of Japanese army, navy, and air assets continues. With Pearl Harbor, Guam, Wake Island, Clark AFB on Luzon, and General Mac Arthur’s last stand at Corregidor, falling to the Japanese in quick succession, the coast of California is feared to be the next enemy conquest. This incident takes place on the island of Niihau, a sparsely populated place that the Japanese government thought was unoccupied. A Japanese pilot in his Mitsubishi Zero is forced to crash land due to flak damage to his aircraft! Petty Officer First Class Shigenori Nishikaichi thinks this island is uninhabited.
The islanders there are confused over what has happened but take no action initially, but a Japanese couple living on the island offered aid to the pilot. At the time, news of the attack had not even reached the island people there. Soon they will learn! The pilot, armed with a pistol is taken in by a man and wife who are not on the side of American interests, hide the pilot, feed him, and treat his wounds while hostages are taken by the pilot. After 6 days knowing that the pilot wants to hold islanders against their will, destroy his plane before the US Navy captures it and burn the documents he had in his cockpit! Once the people on the island learn of the Pearl Harbor attack and realize that an enemy pilot has crashed on their island and a Japanese couple living there, the Harada’s have taken sides against America, one islander confronts the pilot and is shot three times in a scuffle by the Japanese aviator, his wife jumps the Japanese flyer and in the struggle it all ends and the pilot is killed. Mr. Harada who aided the enemy commits suicide. Ben Kanahele, the Hawaiian rancher who fought the Japanese pilot will receive a Medal for Merit and Purple Heart for his bravery in 1945.
This incident demonstrated in the minds of military intelligence that some Japanese Americans could be spying and willing to aid and abet that enemy so the decision to detain Japanese Americans was made! Add to this witness reports of a Japanese person who was signaling the enemy pilots where to bomb during the Pearl Harbor attack and paranoia was now at a fever pitch resulting in the overriding of their Constitutional rights! At the end of the war, Japanese Americans were released but their property had been not been returned. It took until 1988 under President Reagan that reparations were awarded to those Japanese interned in 1942. The incident on the Island of Niihau was the spark that ignited an overreaction. Executive Order 9066 which authorized Japanese American detention was enacted. As we know, there were many things that FDR did using government overreach in the name of preserving “National Security” such as the confiscation of gold owned by citizens, bank closures, and the Emergency Banking Act of 1933, that put America into a permanent state of undeclared bankruptcy.
We like to think that incidents like this could never happen today then we realize that they still do! The political imprisonment for the J-6 allegations by Democrats, Prosecutor Jack Smith ordering investigations of MAGA hat purchasers, The FBI conducting surveillance at catholic Churches because they don’t support abortion, blatant election fraud in 2020 hidden by the Democrats who used lawsuits and legal actions to protect corrupted electronic tabulating machines, Lois Lerner of the IRS denying charitable status to Republican groups attempting to educate voters, heavily armed ATF and FBI agents harassing parents of school children where ISD’s have defiantly allowed pornography in children’s curriculum, our nation’s borders being opened to an invasion of illegals who have no allegiance to American values! Yes, it still goes on!
