Police said Hussain, 29, died after opening fire on a busy Toronto street late Sunday, killing two people and injuring a dozen others. It remains unclear if Hussain shot himself or was killed by police.
Hussain’s family said in a statement that he struggled with “severe mental health challenges,” including “psychosis and depression his entire life,” according to CBS News.
“We are utterly devastated by the incomprehensible news that our son was responsible for the senseless violence and loss of life that took place on the Danforth,” the family said.
