1 IN 5 ADULTS IN THE UK CAN’T CHANGE A LIGHTBULB, BOIL AN EGG

SURVEY: 1 IN 5 ADULTS IN THE UK CAN’T CHANGE A LIGHTBULB, BOIL AN EGG

[4/23/17]  Are you handy enough that if a lightbulb went out in your home you’d be able to change it? Believe it or not, one in five people aren’t so skilled. In fact, a new survey of people in the United Kingdom finds not only do about 20 percent of people not know how to change a bulb — the same number aren’t sure how to boil an egg, either.

The British insurance company Aviva recently released their annual Home Report which detailed, among numerous findings about how people do work around the house, relatively common tasks that people encounter. The company surveyed 2004 people across the UK in February and March about their habits and roles at home.

In addition to just one in five not being able to change a lightbulb or boil an egg, the survey found that nearly a third of the participants couldn’t cook any meal on the fly. And if someone were to spill a portion of their meal on their clothes or on the floor, only 59 percent would know how to get rid of the resulting stain.

Only 37 percent could change a flat tire.

The findings were even surprising to the folks behind the study.

This is 100% true...and yet another reason I left said country.

Nor can they wire a plug, solder, make a fire, change a wheel, do basic DIY, fabricate or make repairs in any variety of materials or BBQ properly.

I got sick of doing/ making/ repairing things for such people (both professionally and far worse...socially) who would tell me to my face how inferior I was, because unlike them I did not have a piece of paper proclaiming I had a university degree in underwater basket weaving, social justice, David Beckham studies (I shit you not - offered by Staffordshire University) etc.

I'm teaching my ten year old son to weld and other practical things. When something gets broken beyond repair I let him to dismantle it and see what's in. iPhone addiction has taken the energy of too many youngsters, practically paralyzing them.

My father did the same with myself and my siblings. My sister is more adept than her husband at repairing and fabricating things. Thankfully I see that my nieces and nephews (under 10) actually comment (of their own validation) about how adults go around seemingly glued to a smartphone, and say they don't want to be like that. I do have hope.

"How many brits does it take to change a CFL lightbulb?" ;)~

H, you're not allowed to change them - there aren't the facilities to recycle the bulbs :D

In my experience, I would apply this to people under 45, who primarily work in an office/ cubicle type environment - who somehow think that a ever-present smartphone with internet access means that they don't need to learn or retain knowledge or exercise skills practically.

Sad...

I find it disturbing that many people have been dumbed down by technology, especially what technology we have today! I believe it was designed to do just the trick mentioned in your post! Typical sheep if there ever was any, they all need a shepherd to follow! Unfortunately, the shepherd they follow will lead them straight into the wolf's den!

The problem is, when you try to teach these people basic skills, they start harping on that they 'don't have the time' - then go back to looking at kitty videos on their phones.

I spent most of my adult life altruistically trying to gently help people - and got pissed on in return, so I'm more guarded now.

How many women does it take to change a light bulb

The REAL question is WTF is she doing out of the kitchen!!

Bman, would you say that the Aussie male has changed since the 90's -  does the true-blue Aussie bloke still exist?

Its very much chan

its changed a fair bit though i like to think there is some left, its more of a legend these days i believe, most people are just brain dead and castrated, theres still a few around Broken Hill
