Somalia will be safer then the US if this scenario plays out, but it won't, but we can all fantasize.

I agree Gary - but I still think that with defense and a family compound comprised of several families...we will hold out for a time. In Patriots, Rawles points out the advantages of a Mormon community...bottom line if it does hit the fan...we are all screwed. But yep, what would the Fed do without the Walmart lovers kept in check with cheap prices and big tv's?

The Road, people did run out of ammo and that was a big part of the movie and so was illness. This was no Hollywood fraud, it was great. In fact the star coveted his 3 bullets for several weeks.

I did not see the movie - but I believe I read the book - Cormac McCarthy right? Good Good stuff!

I also like "One Second After" about an EMP over Amerika... ( http://www.onesecondafter.com/ ) cool thoughts...about not being prepared - coincides with Jeff's first comment...heading to the city.

I guess for us - we have a cow/calf operation complete with chickens, goats, a garden, a windmill for water, horses and I really think that we will be fine. I laugh because the Navajo that remember the "Great Depression" remember it as a time when everyone lived like the Navajo do from day day...week...well u get the picture...

I know fireguy, if the SHTF Ann and I will come by and see you for a day or so on the way to Mexico.

Well Gary, cities will be dangerous, I'll give you that, but so will the countryside. If you don't know who your friends are in the city you probably won't know in the country either.

Please see "The Road" because it's about a man and his son in a post apocalypse world and it depicts exactly what people will be like. There will be few friends, of that you can be assured. GREAT movie.

I live in the suburbs where we still ride bikes, fish and walk around the lakes and parks and don't buy the impending doom scenario. BUT, if there were serious problems there's the argument that people in the city might be better able to survive for a variety of reasons not the least of which is proximity to resources and one another. Out in the boonies you only have what you have and when that runs out you'll head for the city.
